What did you wear after C Section?

Hello everyone,

C section getting booked for 2 weeks time. Excited and nervous 😭!

I'm just looking to get some clothes for the postpartum weeks, what did you all wear while your stitches were healing? I don't want to get anything that's going to rub against my stitches. My first birth was vaginal so I really don't know what to expect.

Any tips/recovery advice would be greatly appreciated xx

Humongous pants, like over your belly button type so the edge doesn't touch and rub the wound. Nightie and dressing gown for the first few weeks at home! Once my wound was healed or I needed to leave the house for check ups etc I used my maternity leggings or a loose dress.

PerfectPrepPrincess · 28/07/2021 09:33

Don't buy disposable pants they're don't ever fit. Get pants at least twice the size of your pre pregnancy weight/size. It's all about comfort not looks at that point.

BikeRunSki · 28/07/2021 09:36

Massive knickers,
Yoga pants with the turn over top, turned up

GlobetrottingPercy · 28/07/2021 09:38

Massive pants and maternity leggings, dresses and light trousers like joggers that were high waisted. Anything where the waist band didn't rub against the wound and gave my stomach some breathing room!

Dandy0911 · 28/07/2021 09:40

Massive pants. I'm a size 8 and I bought size 12 to wear and that worked.
Don't bother with disposable ones.

Another vote for yoga leggings. I wore a decent stretchy pair of leggings 2 days after my section. Im probably an odd one but the compression of them made me so much more comfortable that something floaty on top!

Other than that, comfy clothes, trackie bottoms, warm socks / slippers.

Good luck!

HeartShapedBalloon · 28/07/2021 09:43

Cheap massive knickers (disposables are a waste of money) and dresses. Ones that didn't need zips or buttons being messed with.

Cactuslockdown · 28/07/2021 09:49

BIG knickers and my comfy maternity trousers for a while… never went back to small knickers tbh Grin

LifeBeginsNow · 28/07/2021 10:00

John Lewis do some special csection knickers which compress but don't irritate the wound. I haven't stopped wearing them yet (baby is 7 weeks) and the wound healed weeks ago.

I bought silky huge high waisted pants from Primark (pack of 3 for £5!). I had an emergency section so didn't get these until after. I got them 3 sizes bigger than my usual size and I only stopped wearing them last week at 10 months post-partum as I was having to tie them up tightly with a hair band.

pigglepot · 28/07/2021 10:55

The M&S high waisted BLACK knickers! In the house I just wore jogging bottoms and loose tops. Big shirts are ideal for breastfeeding. Nightshirts are also great for the same reason but you will probably have night sweats so make sure you have a few of them in stock. When I went out I wanted to feel a bit more human so squeezed myself into my early pregnancy jeans after a week or so and/or my maternity jeans. Dresses are a good idea but it you're bf then you won't want to be pulling the whole thing up to feed so keep that in mind when choosing styles. I wore a lot of button cardigans as tops but it wasn't so hot when I gave birth!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/07/2021 11:09

disposable maternity knickers are great.

when I ran out I used my normal knickers back to front (standard type, no butt flossing for me) or none at all if at home and in jimjams or maternity leggings.
mine was a December baby so I'd wear maternity tights and skirts & dresses a lot, found that combo more comfortable than trousers

TheBaddie · 28/07/2021 11:16

Marks and Spencer full briefs in a size up and a long nighty from primark while in hospital (i think they were about £4 each)

To go home in and for a few weeks after i just carried on wearing the huge nickers and my maternity leggings

Hm2020 · 28/07/2021 11:31

I wore giant knickers from primark and lose maxi dresses for the first week or two

RavenclawsRoar · 28/07/2021 11:36

Granny pants, high waisted leggings and button down smock tops/dresses so I could bf were pretty much it for me. I don't know whether it was the c section or the fact it was my second baby, but my bump took aaaaaages to deflate after baby 2. Big pants and leggings were a must for a while after because of that, even when my incision was healed.

sarah13xx · 28/07/2021 11:59

Mine is on the 9th 😊 first baby though! I’ve just packed really high waisted big pants and joggy type trousers that will come way over it. I have a loose dress in my bag as well in case bending down to pull trousers up isn’t very comfortable 🤦🏼‍♀️ I have packed sliders like I’d wear to the pool instead of flip flops then I can wear these in the shower and probably just wear them home too. My partner isn’t allowed in to collect us so I won’t be able to get him to put my shoes on for me and I think quite often your feet are really swollen after too. When I get home I’m planning just to wear nighties and really stay in bed for a few days then I might order some more of the loose dresses. I’ve got a midi tshirt dress from next that I think will be good for the first week

sarah13xx · 28/07/2021 12:02

@LifeBeginsNow I have been looking at getting these but thought are they really worth £27? Maybe il just get them

Grognonne · 28/07/2021 12:07

Second the JL c-section pants. That are so comfortable and have a mesh bit for the scar to breathe. Still in them now!!

I know! It's really not like me to spend that kind of money. The other day I spent ages debating buying 2 dummies as I didn't want to waste money if DS didn't take to them.

I would say they are worth the money. I don't notice I've got them on and I think that's important with the wound. You may get the same experience from big pants but I thought the surgery and recovery is a big deal so I needed a little something.

BikeRunSki · 28/07/2021 17:17

I’ve had ££££ c section pants, and just big pants. Tyr just big pants were actually more comfortable.

sarah13xx · 28/07/2021 17:21

@LifeBeginsNow think when I’m going to wear them for quite a while and potentially have another c-section further down the line I should just get them. Have spent sooo much money on baby stuff the last few months but what’s another £27 thrown in there for some pants 😂

Cinnamama · 29/07/2021 09:34

M&S high waisted black cotton pants. High waisted floaty skirts or tunics/ dresses, and loose, soft leggings. Slip on shoes (no bending). I was in hospital gown with compression stockings initially then in a loose nightie with light dressing gown for first night/ day.

Deloresabernathy · 29/07/2021 09:38

Big knickers and maternity leggings. I wore nighties immediately afterwards and to sleep in.

With my first baby, I was back in 'normal' jeans after about six weeks. With the second I hung onto my maternity jeans that had the elastic and buttons in the waistband for a few months.
