Induction stalled! Help keep me sane 😩

Hi!
So I had a propess pessary inserted yesterday lunchtime for my outpatient induction of labour.
I went home napped a bit, sat around for a bit and then when I got up my waters broke.
I had some dinner just in case in between some pretty heavy contractions and phoned triage and was told to come in because of waters and because of it being a result of the induction.
The contractions ramped up pretty quickly and by 9pm I was contracting every 2 minutes for around 30 seconds at a time. I was checked and sent off to the ward instead of delivery suite as I wasn’t dilated enough and there was no room for me even though I’d asked for pain relief. (I was also instructed to remove the pessary as it was over stimulating)
I went from 10pm last night until around 5am this morning with contractions around 3 minutes apart but again they were deemed as not long enough to be sent to the delivery ward.
I slept for around an hour this morning and have managed to nap on and off but my contractions have petered out 😩, I get one when I move but apart from that nothing!
There’s still no room for me on the delivery suite so I’ve been shoved in a side room until they decide they can send me down to finish the induction/put the drip in.
I’m absolutely exhausted, at what point can I say this is enough and request a c section? I’ve had no access to pain relief for examinations, which has been horrendous and in all honesty I just want to go home 😩😭.
I’m feeling incredibly sorry for myself so please excuse the self indulgence of this post!
If anyone has any tips to get things going again? Or any pearls of wisdom on how long they can leave me in these circumstances please share!

Thankyou!

Can’t help I’m afraid but if you want a c section over the drip then ask for it now.

MimiDaisy11 · 05/07/2021 12:37

I regretted not asking for a c section earlier as I went through days of induction only for it to end up as an emergency section. So if you do genuinely now want one don’t be afraid to speak up.

For pain killers - can’t they give you gas and air? I was having bad contractions and there was no room in the labour ward but thankfully they left me with gas and air.

It sucks being in your situation but you will move on even if it feels like time is dragging. You’ll hopefully see your baby soon.

Hi OP, bless you I can relate to your current position and it ain't much fun. I gave birth to my second child 7 weeks ago.

My first born - induction, just gas and air through my choice, ended up in theatre, horrendous experience to the point that I can't remember large chunks of his birth.

Second child - induction, just like you my waters went but labour didn't progress, they started talking about the drip and I said I would only have it if I could have an epidural put in first. I can honestly say it was such a positive experience. Made it all feel manageable to the point I was able to nap for an hour while things progressed and avoided a c section. Honestly I wish someone had told me to opt for that the first time around. I recovered so much quicker this time around and was able to drive again a couple of days later.

You can do this OP! Soon you'll have your little one with you x

I think I will ask, I was induced for a reason due to an LGA baby… so this is what worries me about all the waiting around for things to happen!
I sound dramatic but I genuinely thought I was dying last night, all they could give me was oramorph which did absolutely nothing other than turn me into an absolute wally!
Unfortunately they don’t seem you as in need on the pre/post-delivery ward so you get the crappy medication and no G&A!
I genuinely think if I’d had G&A last night I would have had a baby by now 😩!

I won’t be going anywhere with decent pain relief until there’s a space for me/I end up with an infection 😩, the maternity department is absolutely heaving!

Fingers crossed something miraculous happens 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Hi. Similar thing happened to me. My main piece of advice is it's your body and your choice. Put your foot down and insist on answers and decisions. If you want a c section, say now and be firm!

sarah13xx · 05/07/2021 14:22

It sounds like maybe staying mobile is the best thing to do if you want to get things moving and give birth vaginally. You must be absolutely done in though and don’t sound like you’re being treated very well because they’re so busy. I’m having an elective section (first baby) because it’s what I have always wanted - major fear of birth. If you want one, you can have one at any point. Just don’t eat and ask for one. Quote the nice guidelines and look on the birth rights website if you need back up! You can also look up your hospital on there and see how many they’ve carried out for maternal request. If that’s what you want go for it 100% and don’t take no for an answer. It seems the louder you shout about these things, the quicker you are helped

In my experience the of induction with a similar time line, the drip worked fast. 4 hours after being connected I was holding my baby. Once my waters had properly gone I found the pain of contractions a too much and had an epidural. This was in a country that doesn’t really offer gas and air, so I might have been fine with that. The epidural worked well and I had no pain at the pushing stage and no afterpains while the uterus contracted down or during stitches. Epidurals can also be a good option if you’re worried about going on the drip and then potentially needing a section anyway - sometimes they can just bolster the epidural rather than siting a separate spinal anesthetic. Hope you get a space on the delivery suite soon !

C3PO31 · 05/07/2021 22:37

I’m still not on delivery suite, apparently although they had space earlier because no-one had done any obs on me since 7am and I hadn’t had a ctg since the day before they couldn’t take me and gave my bed away 😩.
I’m absolutely exhausted now, still having random on/off contractions and trying to nap in between them to regain a bit of sanity!

I’ve spoken to the midwife this evening about a c section and was just thoroughly patronised about recovery time and I wouldn’t be able to drive or pick my baby up etc…. So when she hands over in the morning I will be demanding a c section, I’ll be 36 hours post waters breaking by that point and nearly 48 hours post pessary.
I’ve been reading up on my rights and I really don’t think I’m asking for anything outlandish!

Fingers crossed I get some sleep tonight 😩🤞🏻

Feel for you. You must be exhausted. Hopefully you either progress or get some rest tonight

Hey, so sorry to hear you’re going through this! I endured something similar with my daughter. Tried every induction method possible and sadly wasn’t allowed home during it so I spent so many days just waiting and waiting, pain, waiting and waiting so by the time I had the drip I was thoroughly spent 😢 I had no energy, physically or mentally, to take it on and it really shifted my “positive/hypbobirthing” attitude and I just couldn’t get in the zone. It was so tough.

Can I just ask, have they given you antibiotics for your waters? I had mine broken manually and daughter born about 30 hours later but she had suspected sepsis when born, query due to “prolonged membrane rupture” I’m sure your midwives know what they’re doing and I am certainly no medical professional, but if you’re not being monitored closely I’d maybe just check to ask what they’re doing to monitor that baby doesn’t get an infection whilst out of waters? I only say this based on my experience, it might be a completely isolated case but just thought I’d mention.

Good luck with it all. You’ve done well to get this far and hope you get to meet your baby very soon ❤️

sarah13xx · 06/07/2021 06:49

@C3PO31 hope you’ve got somewhere with them this morning and managed to sleep x

Cannes12 · 06/07/2021 06:56

Hopefully you've now had the baby but just in case - demand the c section and be very very firm. Very firm. Its your choice.
Yours is so similar to my story and it was so traumatic that when pregnant with second, the consultants were falling over themselves to offer me an elective c section and anything else I wanted. The way first time mothers are dragged through this is scandalous.

BunnyRuddington · 06/07/2021 08:11

I'm hoping that you've had the baby by now as well Thanks

C3PO31 · 07/07/2021 12:29

I had him at 1am this morning!

I was 5 cm dilated when they finally took me down to the delivery suite yesterday morning at 8am and everyone down there was falling over themselves to apologise!
Unfortunately at 23.45 last night I still couldn’t dilate past 9cm so I was prepped for an emcs and as it turns out I would never have been able to push him out because of his awkward position and head size 😬!
He’s in NICU currently but fingers crossed I’ll be home cuddling him soon 😍 xx
