Has anyone has there waters broken successfully at 1cm dilated?? Had a sweep Saturday morning and was told I'm 1cm but my cervix was still high but she could feel babies head and the water sack! I'm due for an elective section if my waters can't be broken which I'm not happy with, do I need to dilate more than this or can they do it at 1cm? Tried Googling but have had mixed results! ConfusedConfused

Hi, no advice I’m sorry but hopefully someone will come along with some knowledge.
Why do you have to have a c section if they can’t break your waters?

They did mine at, quote 'just about 2cm' but they wouldnt have taken me down to the labour ward if they hadn't have thought it was doable, I was being induced fairly unsuccessfully but baby was fine at that point so I think they'd have just left me about longer to make slow progress.
I guess you aren't in the same position as you've got CS on the cards but they were clear with me they wouldn't be breaking my waters til i hit the magic 2cm. My Bishop's score was very low but slowly increasing.

Previous emergency c-section and unable to go overdue to high risk preeclampsia and reduced movements, I'm unable to have the gels or pessaries incase it causes the scar to rupture! ConfusedSad

At 1 cm you might have quite a lot of labour left yet.

If they break your waters then I think they will only give you 24 hours because the risk of infection increases.

Fingers crossed I get to 2cm by Wednesday then! I will be on the labour ward as the elective section is already booked as a last resort if they can not break my waters. Unable to go overdue or have a gel/pessary induction! Thank you x

That's fine by me! I'm avoiding another c-section I'm aware it's on the cards but really want to give a natural birth a good go!

Well, you're halfway there so if I were to place a bet I reckon they'll be able to (absolutely no professional knowledge here though!). Get on that ball and get bouncing! Fingers crossed for a nice smooth experience for you both 🙂

Thank you so much! Feel like I live on my ball at the minute!

Yep easily at a 1cm.

MamaMoonstone · 04/07/2021 14:30

Hi, I did!!

Slightly different as I was being induced. So after 3 lots of pessary I was only 1cm dialated. They took me to the labour ward and the plan was to break my water then put me straight onto the hormone drip.

The midwife couldn’t do it at 1cm so they had to get a consultant in. And they advised me to have gas and air whilst it was being done because at 1cm it was, less than comfortable. But it was successful! And I was very relieved :)

2 hours passed and nothing had started labour wise so they then put me on the hormone drip and I went on to have a happy healthy birth, with a 9 hour labour including 30 mins pushing.

Best of luck!! X

Only just seen this, yes me, it was fine.
Several years ago now so midwifery practice may have changed I went in with baby no 3 (10 days overdue) in early hours of morning as I’d been having regular contractions through the night and was convinced I was well on way to delivery. Arrived at hospital and midwife told me that I was barely dilated (so don’t know precisely how many cms) but my waters were bulging and could go at any time, and it would be better for me to go home and continue to labour there.
For various reasons I was hoping to be kept in and when I explained why the midwife said she’d take another look and she ‘accidentally’ popped my waters for me.
I genuinely didn’t feel a thing other than a gush and my labour was no different to the previous two. Neither the baby or me suffered as a result and we were home the next morning.
