How to cope with being "overdue"?

I am 41+3 according to LMP (42+0 according to early scan) today and need some support to cope with with being "overdue". I had planned home waterbirth with independent midwife, who is supporting whichever decision I want to make about induction (currently scheduled for next Wednesday 42+1 LMP, 42+5 scan).

I find the wait very hard and would be interested in what helped you to cope. I don't seem to find any balance between rest and activity, distraction and resting, stressing and getting information. Trying all the traditional home remedies plus vigorous acupuncture, but am getting frustrated, so stopped for the time being.

Baby seems to be fine and while the main stressor is that I fear for his health and worry about stillbirth, this is now just as much about my mental state as his physical health.

Have tried all the 'is there something that I need to address?', visualization, positioning (he is in very good position now), and asked him if 'there is anything he needs before coming' to no avail. Have plenty of issues and post-traumatic stress after previous miscarriage with complications but done everything in my power to at least address these.

What helped you and how did you cope?

So... Kekouan, how did it go?

Glimmer, how are you?

kekouan · 28/11/2007 11:05

Very well. Am 2-3cm already, said she easily managed to do the sweep.

Was a bit sirprised at the amount of blood though, there is still a small amount and I'm wondering whether to call the midwife.. hmm.

also managed to convince myself that waters have broken and I'm leaking, so have put on a pad. Probably imagining it though!

Starlight - thats pretty funny. It is great to answer the when are you due question with '14 days ago' and then do a little 'ooooo' and clutch your tummy.
Kekouan - how's it going?

kekouan · 28/11/2007 11:27

NMC -thanks, yes.. I'm OK. waiting...

;)

Kekouan, Fabulous! Baby won't be long now!

Did mw tell you your Bishops Score?

Remember tonight to get to bed early and get some sleep. Make sure that you are well hydrated and feed regular and often. Keep Warm and lights low. Put some lavendar on the oil burner, and or Clary Sage, Have a lovely soak under the shower or in bath, bounce on your birth ball while dh massages lower back.

As for the leaking it is possible that it could be amnio fluid, which is sweet compared to urine. Smell the pad?

Check out my links in earlier post again.

It could be tonight or tomorrow night....

Sorry that's BAKE, not back fruit scones....

kekouan · 28/11/2007 17:31

Klaw, thanks again
Bishops score was 6. Is that good?

Hopefully I'll get a good nights sleep and everything will start off soon

Woo!!

(scared)

Klaw · 28/11/2007 18:01

Yes, I'd say that's positive! Mine was 8 and I went into labour that night. They say it should be 9 for best induction. So, I'd say that 6 is a good way there and means that your body is getting ready.

Doesn't tell you when it will happen, but you should be confident that it will!

Usually women go into labour at night when it's calm and peaceful. It's what your hormones need so that is why I tell you to get an early night after some pampering. You might be woken later with contractions beginning

Don't get too excited or stressed, just chill and await calmly! OK?

kekouan · 28/11/2007 20:15

trying to! meep..

needmorecoffee · 29/11/2007 09:18

we do expect you to post between contractions ya know

kekouan · 29/11/2007 09:34

God, I've totally hijacked this thread, haven't I. Sorry :-p

Well.. going to the hospital this morning to see if waters have gone (I think they have now) but still don't have any contractions to speak of... very mild tightenings but that's it!

Will probably be back later in a scowly mood having been told to wait until something real happens.

This has been an interesting read - thanx! I'm 40+2 today and am booked in for a sweep tomorrow (cervix permitting etc).

Good idea about the cinema actually, although i'm not sure there's anything worth going to see at the moment....

needmorecoffee · 01/12/2007 18:23

How's it all going?

Hello!

Quick note to say that I gave birth to a gorgeous baby boy at 1:46 on Friday morning. 40 +8, and all doing well. by the time I was actually getting proper contractions, my braxton hicks had got me to 5cm!! wonderful birth, and we're all doing well.

Will try to do a proper birth announcement soon.

:-D

needmorecoffee · 03/12/2007 17:31

Maggieb52 · 04/12/2007 23:55

I went 14 days over in total! My midwife advised lots of sex to try and bring on the labour!! It didn't work. She said to do it at least 3 times that evening!!!!!DH was knackered!!!!Good luck
