Hi, I'm currently due to be induced in a few days this will be vbac attempt and I've been told I'll be induced via the balloon method and not the medical method. Has anyone had this and can shed some light on it? Thanks!

Havnt had it however in same position. Doctor explained it as inflating a small balloon in the cervix and they keep it there for 12 hours. At that point if dilated enough they will rupture membranes then give you 4hrs to see if labour starts. Hope that helps a little. X

I had this as part of an induction where I also had the cervix gel and later the drip. The balloon they used with me actually had two connected bulbs joined by a thin section - like an hourglass shape. They put one end into the uterus and fill it with saline, then fill the other side (still in the vagina) with saline too. You have to sit/lie with your feet up in stirrups while they do this. My doctors used a speculum like for a smear test. It honestly hurt less than the cervical progress exams and gel applications. The two bulbs push on the thin middle section which helps to mechanically dilate the cervix. It also gave me some contractions. I had mine put in late at night, with the idea that they would take it out in the morning before putting me on the drip (unless baby was born beforehand). The balloon fell out at 3am, which was weird and a bit painful, but good news as it meant my cervix had dialated considerably.

I had this for my 2nd child. It is as Babyiskickingmyribs describes. Had contactions for 2 hours after they put it in (evening) so I stayed in the hospital overify (and got little sleep). Contractions had stopped so I went home in the morning. Balloon came out 24 hours after insertion as I was getting onto the table to have it checked. Had a few contractions immediately after but went home again overnight. Expected labour as I was 6 days late by this stage but nothing. They manually broke waters following afternoon (so nearly 2 days after balloon insertion) and i was told to go for a walk but strong contractions started almost immediately. I laboured for 5 hours, had an epidural, then ventouse when foetal heart rate dropped. All good in the end though (and baby was 9lbs 4!) . Just wanted to outline expectations that it can take a while!!!
