Another c-section question…

If I make it til my planned section date without any signs of labour, will they do an internal exam before I go in to see how dilated I am? Just wondering what actually happens before it and have heard it can be quite uncomfortable being examined so ideally they won’t 🙈

I doubt it. I’ve had 2 and with the first they felt the bump and listened with a Doppler, the second was at a different hospital and they put me on a monitor for 20 minutes.

Mumofboys1 · 19/06/2021 12:52

I did with my first but that was due to being in labour and it then being an emergency c section, my second was planned c section and I don’t remember any internal examination before… good luck with everything!

MindyStClaire · 19/06/2021 13:33

My second was an ELCS and I made it the whole way through without a single internal except for a couple of early reassurance scans which aren't a big deal.

AuditAngel · 19/06/2021 13:36

I had 2 CS due to placenta praevia. I was not given an internal during either pregnancy due to risk of starting a bleed

I had a planned c section with my second and had no internal; I guess if you’re hoping to go into labour naturally then you could ask for that

custardbear · 19/06/2021 13:39

I didn't have one, well not that I knew of - I just had my anaesthetic and off we went - his head was in my hip though so doubtful he was on his way the natural route 😉

Try not to worry too much - don't forget they see vaginas all day long - literally- they don't give a hoot, promise!

Enjoy your new baby and don't worry about the small stuff

Thanks everyone 😊

@MindyStClaire that’s good to know! I’ve had to have the internal scans for my low placenta because his heads always in the way to get a measurement but they’ve been totally fine.

@AuditAngel oh great! That’s what I have but mine seems to be quite minor, the placenta isn’t covering over the cervix anyway

@custardbear this is true 😂 don’t think il be too bothered about them looking by then (preparing myself to need a catheter in anyway) but just hoping it’s not any worse than a smear test if they do have to check!

God you don't feel a thing once they anaesthetise you 🥳

Garman · 22/06/2021 11:55

They don't do that if you're in for elective csection, why would they?
