I had stitches so abit different but I’d say about 2 weeks to feel no pain.
Has your midwife had a look at it for you to check it’s ok?

I think next week will be better - I did have stitches mine felt worse the second week too, more itchy and throbby it’s just part of the healing process. You will have a check with the midwife in a day or two won’t you? They can always have a look and check everything looks ok.

I had a 2nd degree and swore by the ‘spritz for bits’ by my expert midwife. Honestly worth the money for me x

Are you taking lots of pain killers? Ibuprofen? Don't be a martyr, you've just pushed a baby out of your vagina, take as many pain killers as you need. Also spritz your pads with water and stuck them in the freezer for a little ice pack relief.
I would also say min. 2 weeks to feel normal again. Get lots of rest, lie down as much as possible.

Congratulations on your new baby. It was about 3 weeks to feel a little more human physically. I had an episiotomy.

Best advice: Take pain killers (I was not prepared for the after pains of everything contracting back- ouch!) My midwife advised having a bath every day and putting salt in the water plus lavender oil- this really helped with the healing! And then she advised not towel drying down below so I didn’t pull the stitches , but instead to use the hairdryer on the cool setting. Oh the glamour of being a new mum! But it worked (maybe worn your partner in case they walk in and think you’ve lost the plot!)

Make sure you keep taking ibuprofen and paracetamol regularly, it helps reduce the swelling as well as pain relief. You can take both while breastfeeding.

And yes, as pp said definitely ask your midwife to have a look, don’t be embarrassed. It’s better to know sooner if it’s infected etc.

I'm 2.5 weeks PP and the aching, throbbing & pain has just started to go away. The first few days I couldn't feel a thing from my 2nd degree tear, it hurt more 2 weeks down the line! Regular paracetamol and ibuprofen, I used bottoms up spray (cheapo spritz for bits I think) but it's lovely stuff! Also lavender oil in a shot of milk (so it doesn't float on top of your bath water) in a warm bath. I washed myself twice a day to make sure I stayed clean too! X

My top tip - Use a empty, cleaned out lucozade sport bottle (or similar) to squirt water on your bits after going to the loo. I found this easier than trying pouring water from a jug.
