Hi

How long were you in after your section? Particularly with your first baby?

Thanks

The next day.
1st section - born at 10.17am home next afternoon
2nd section - born at 12.43 home next evening due to delay in hearing test
3rd section - 15.10 and home by next afternoon

All latched on well so if you have issues establishing feeding there may be a delay

Hi there my stay was less than 48 hrs but it was emergency. I had elective 2nd time and out in less than 24 hours 😯. They were so keen to get me out. Good luck.

Babyontheway21 · 09/06/2021 11:39

The next day would be great, as long as everything is ok I would prefer to recover at home.

I work on labour and delivery. It all depends on the circumstances. If you're on certain medication they will need to keep you in for obs on baby. Also if there are any issues they need to keep an eye on, excessive blood loss, manual removal of placenta etc.

If everything goes to plan and they don't need to do any obs and your section has gone well then our ladies go home the next day - sometimes a delay is getting the NIPE done as there are only certain midwives who can do it and you can't do until that's done.

Good luck!

Great thanks you, I’ll just need to see what happens on the day :)

24 hours, and would have been sooner if the doc had been able to do the discharge form sooner - I was waiting in the room for a couple of hours for them to get to me

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 09/06/2021 12:13

Both mine were emergency sections but I stayed 3 nights with dc1 (he was in Nicu and they wouldn't send me home without him) and 1 night with dc2.

DS, EMCS, 36hrs.

DD, ELCS, 17hrs.

Still in lots of pain especially the second time but got more rest and better access to analgesia at home.

I had my baby (first baby) by ELCS last month under general anaesthetic and was home in just over 24 hours. I’ve recovered well and found the experience really positive considering it was the opposite of the birth I was hoping for. Good luck :)

Next day

Babyontheway21 · 09/06/2021 21:29

That’s great to hear Smile so do they aim to get the catheter out within 6 hours and do you get a shower that night?silly question and probably I won’t be bothered to but should I take a hairdryer?

plixy · 09/06/2021 21:34

I had section at 10am, there were complications and a lot of blood loss so I didn't get catheter out until about 8pm.
The next day I was sick twice and they wanted to keep me in a second night but I hated the ward and asked to go home. They had no real concerns so they let me and I left about 6pm the second day.
There was never any mention of a shower- to be honest I wouldn't have managed one.
I didn't wash until the morning after I went home. I spent the whole time in the shower thinking my stitches would split open if I bent to wash anything below my waist!

imaginethemdragons · 09/06/2021 21:39

Less than 24 hours.

sweatpantsofdefeat · 09/06/2021 21:39

I was desperate for a shower and had one in hospital both times as soon as I was mobile but I wouldn't bother with a hairdryer. Although you can stand and walk, holding your arms up to dry your hair for any extended period will be hard work.

Even with an ELCS you might get bumped to the afternoon list, mine wasn't done till gone 4pm so I wasn't really up and about till the next morning.

Our trust stats a minimum of 2 night stay, it was awful!! I'm hoping to come home much quicker this time around.

MisdemeanorOnTheFloor · 12/06/2021 09:58

22 hours. Covid. I would have been allowed to go earlier, but had to produce 300ml (I think?!) of wee, &took me ages. Was very dehydrated after birth so had to force myself to down jugs of squash.
Didn't shower until the next day, 11am I think (baby delivered at 9pm) once catheter out & feeling regained in legs. Wouldn't have been able to dry my hair if you'd paid me! I staggered out of that place rather bedraggled; you don't get much sleep on the ward& baby and I were checked on every couple of hours throughout night (meconium).
The one essential I will recommend is windeze - trapped air after surgery can cause right shoulder pain. Just a pro-tip I picked up from Mumsnet!

Moorelewis · 12/06/2021 10:33

Discharged myself after 24 hours with my emergency and my elective.

DS EMCS around 6 days but that’s because both of us caught an infection and DS kept losing weight.

DD ELCS we stayed over night one night and went home the next day. It was a completely different experience to the EMCSand recovery was relatively straight forward

Babyontheway21 · 12/06/2021 21:12

Thank you everyone Smile
