Positive stories needed from older mums who had multiple c-sections!

Hi there,

I'm 35 with a 6 month old son who was born by necessity by c section. I have a fibroid near my birth canal which they were umming and ahhing about the whole pregnancy, then after the 35 week scan they found my waters had gone and I was rushed in for a (planned) c section. I didnt go into labour the 3 days in hospital getting steroid injections etc.

Anyway because of the fibroid I was a high risk section, they said I might bleed out, but actually the op went very smoothly. I had the top surgeons working on me because of the high risk and I think it paid off - my fibroid was lower down than they thought ie not a bleeding risk, and my perfect scar healed up super quick. I am healthy not overweight with no health conditions.

Anyway me and my partner would like more kids - ideally 2 more. I am waiting until my son is 1 to try again as that is recommended at my age after a section, which means I'd be 37 by the time I gave birth to a second... and 39 by the time I had a 3rd.

Does anyone have experience of this - multiple sections at this age? Am I stupid to want this?

Thanks in advance I am really hoping we can have our ideal family after unfortunately taking a long time to conceive our first, then a miscarriage, so now am 35 with my first (it was much easier to conceive the second time, think I warmed the womb up so to speak!) Xx

I don't think there's anything wrong with it - as long as the doctors didn't tell you not to have any more then you should be fine! I'm on a Facebook group called C-Section Support UK and there are plenty of women on there who have had multiple sections if you want to check that out? Personally I've suffered a hell of a lot more from birth injuries from the vaginal birth I had, rather than the c section which was very easy to recover from. I shall be having another c section in a few months too! Good luck.

I had dc1 at 37 and dc2 at 40 both by emcs. No issues conceiving, no issues in pregnancy apart from morning sickness and very easy c section recoveries. Was out for lunch when dc2 was 2 days old.

I was told having a 3rd would be fine from a medical perspective if I wanted one.

Thanks @Hufflepuffsunite. Unfortunately if you Google it the internet is full of doom and gloom about older mums and multiple sections.. but despite the odds being "double" this or "triple" that I think the overall odds are still low (I'm trying not to mention the scary words but suffice to say rare stuff!). It fills me with joy the idea of creating 3 happy healthy babies with my partner - my son is truly a delight from morning till evening. But I hate the idea of... well, dying and leaving my son and partner alone :(

I'm with you I was terrified of a section before I had it but I am the only person in my nct group who had no pain and most of them were rushed in for an emergency section for their extended labours but ended up giving birth naturally or with assistance and most of them except the lucky ones tore to pieces poor things. The section was so easy for me and then I healed perfectly and had no post op pain. I think the main thing for me was feeling exhausted after the surgery but my post op period was awful - I was separated from my NICU baby, desperately trying to hand express milk for him, in a ward full of screaming babies (and mothers) and no visitors allowed...

Anyway i want to ask my gp friend about tthe multiple sections thing at my age, but unfortunatly she is struggling to conceive with her partner and I dont want to upset her by offloading my worries about multiple babies on her xx

I had my second section at 36 last year, it was fine as was my first at 34. No one ever mentioned my age.

MrsC2018 · 26/05/2021 15:35

I had my second section recently at 37 and it was fine. Think it took longer to recover from than the first but I was only 24 with my first so think I bounced back quicker last time. I'm hoping for a third asap so definitely not put me off! You'll be fine :)

I had a first c section age 32 (breech baby) and second was an emergency age 37 with twins. I plan to try for a final pregnancy age 39/40

I did lose both my tubes to ectopics though that were caused by my first c section and the subsequent adhesions/scar tissue

I had emcs at 35 and was pushed towards a natural birth for baby no 2 at 39. I ended up with another emcs. Apart from blood loss with 1st I had no complications. They told me baby no 3 would have to be c-section due to risk of internal damage to the already present scaring but sadly baby no 3 was not to be.

MOGMOGMOG85 · 26/05/2021 22:41

Thanks everyone - how great that you all have such big families xx @ShutUpaYourFace sorry about number 3. I know how lucky I am to have one so dint want to be greedy but truly I want 3 too xx

I had my first child at 38 by c section and my second 17 months later also by c section. Had no issues. Decided not to go for a third but my obstetrician was fine for me to do it if I wanted.
