Hiya everyone, I'm due beginning of August and thinking of asking for a c section and tubes tied at same time, has anyone had this done and any advice, what to expect during and after etc etc ?
Only had vaginally births before so the thought is a bit scary for me Confused gonna discuss with the midwife this wk at my appt, any questions or anything I should be asking her ?
Thanx

Yes I did with my 3rd c section nearly 15 years ago. The tube tying gave me more after pain than the section itself although it wasn't horrific and pain relief helped. I was given the option just before the planned section. It was sort of 'while we are in there do you want to be sterilised?' For me it was a no brained as couldn't risk a 4th pregnancy and c section. I'm not sure what the protocol would be for a first baby.

Sorry re read and you've had babies. Would they let you have a c section? If so it's worth asking. It didn't take much longer than the section itself and I was preoccupied with my dd so can't really remember any issues with it. X

I did - as part of a planned section I had my tubes tied as we knew we were done. Felt no different afterwards than a previous planned section that I'd had. (I've had an emergency section that was a whole different ball game).
Section early morning, was in the shower by mid afternoon; walked up the corridors regularly for next three days and then home with the baby on fourth day.
So physical recovery fine - I took the painkillers and didn't overstretch above my head or when lifting or when getting in and out of the car.
Feelings about having had my tubes tied - brief pang about the childbearing stage being over but otherwise relief that it won't happen by accident and the decision has been made.

Good luck OP.

Just saw you haven't had a section before OP.
My experience is that you just need to plan a bit - stretching overhead is not ideal, don't be bending and lifting and climbing up and down on the floor for the first couple of weeks if you have older children.
Keep any mugs etc. down on the counter rather than stretching overhead in cupboards for anything.
Don't climb in and out of high cars/jeeps.
Take it easy getting out of bed - swing your legs out and then your body.
I didn't feel pain - the painkillers will see you through that so I had to remind myself not to overdo it.
Keep the wound clean with warm water and it should heal nicely.

Are you thinking about having a section so you can be sterilised at the same time? It’s definitely worth talking to a doctor - iirc there’s a slightly higher failure rate from having tubes tied as part of a section than is a separate elective operation... if there’s not another particular reason for wanting a section rather than another vaginal delivery it might make more sense to have it done as a planned operation later on once you’ve recovered from pregnancy/birth. (Disclaimer: Am not an o&g doc but do work with them!)
