I had dc2 there with Lorin Lakasing. She was lovely and supportive, understanding my anxiety following multiple miscarriages between dc1 k dc2. Eg she made time and found the facilities to scan me the moment I had a little spotting around 16 weeks.
I agree the post natal care is excellent, midwives that have time, remember your name, listen to what you want. Offering you extra (when I asked for hell getting water at 3am she said ‘sure, but can I bring you a pot of peppermint tea and some biscuits too?’
That is quiet and private (one room per patient). There’s no need to upgrade.
The one thing I should say is it’s more interventionist. I chose Lorin as she was the most supportive consultant of all those I researched and met. I really wanted an intervention free birth. But my husband wanted the reassurance of hospital and I didn’t want it do nhs again.
But as scans suggested he was on the larger side even when pushed to intervene. But even then, with that we had a respectful conversation about what to do. And in the end came to a plan I could live with. Even though it was a c section I didn’t want.
It was far better than any interventionist birth / c section you get on the nhs.
The midwives there encouraged me to stay a third day post natal, telling me I’d feel much much better then. And they were right. The day I got home I could get down on the floor to play with dc1.
I had a temp a few days later and when I called for advice they told me to come in immediately with my baby and an overnight bag (It was evening and I thought they meant come the next day - they said no, no, come now).
It turned out to be nothing but again I was in a private room, carefully checked, a midwife helped me correct my baby’s latch for better breast feeding.
The difference with private is that they have the time and resources to care for you and your baby really really well.
