Hi

I bought lilets maternity pads as I had seen good reviews but now I am thinking these are thin i enough after reading about lochia (first baby don’t know what to expect so my head is running away with itself and thinking it’s going to be terrible) has anyone used these and were they ok or should I get other ones?

Honestly, you'll be fine.

If it turns out you need different ones, send someone out to get them or Amazon prime them. Don't waste your worries on things like this.

Good luck!

ThatIsMyPotato · 11/05/2021 09:15

Boots do some thick ones if you want thicker ones. I would get more than you think you will need so you don't have to worry about running out.

LH4VR · 11/05/2021 09:23

You're going for comfort here. My personal choice of the big thick 'duvet' pads. Like a comfort blanket for the VG.

RizzleRazzle · 11/05/2021 09:26

I definitely didn't find the Lil Lets maternity pads thin, they're huge! I used them for the first week then moved on to Boots slim maternity pads then normal sanitary towels

Megan2018 · 11/05/2021 09:27

I used a mixture of thick and thin. Thick for the first week or so then the thin ones afterwards.
I bought loads but only because we live in the middle of nowhere and it’s a long way to a shop that sells them. If you are in a town or city less of an issue.

I used a lot though, changed every time I had a wee to start with as there was a lot of blood. I have really light periods so it was a bit weird for me to experience. But everyone is different.
I really rated the Boots own brand ones.

EssentialHummus · 11/05/2021 09:32

I’d go for the giant thick ones personally - Boots good, as others have said.

Thanks for all your responses I’ll pick up some boots ones as well for my hospital bag so I have both, I just don’t know what to expect I have visions of blood everywhere Grin just want to make sure I have the right ones for when I’m in hospital.

I found boots too bulky. I preferred Little Angel's at asda

Happycat1212 · 11/05/2021 10:58

Tesco’s ones are good imo

Calmyertits · 11/05/2021 10:59

Wilkos and asda ones i used, asda do the disposable pants like what you get at hospital aswell

FoxtrotSkarloey · 11/05/2021 11:03

Thickness doesn't necessarily equate to absorbency. You can get both old style/ thick/ maxi towels and ultra / thin ones in a range or absorbencies for periods, and maternity towels are just super absorbent, whether thick or thin.

Traditionally, many women prefer the padded feel of a thick towel post birth, but this isn't necessary for an absorption point of view.

Personally I think maternity towels are a bit of a rip off and you'd be fine with normal night towels.

If the ones you've got are maternity towels, they should be ok.

randomsabreuse · 11/05/2021 11:07

Main thing is maternity towels aren't scented which is crucial. I liked the big padded ones best at the time (keep a few in a bag in the freezer!) but once things got lighter I'd probably have gone for reusable cloth SP over the "natural organic" disposables I tried after Always irritated the hell out of things.

Babyontheway21 · 11/05/2021 11:14

I’m getting a section so hopefully won’t need the freezer trickBlush I’ll go with what u have and then once I’m out I can change to what suits better.

Given you are having a section, you won't need the padding. I used thin maternity pads for about 2 days, then normal always regular flow for another 3 maybe, then a few days with pantyliners.

I also had sections, and whilst some women still have heavy lochia after them, it's pretty common for it to be very light as well (they do some of the clean up inside during the surgery I believe). The first 24hrs there was a lot, but it rapidly tailed off, and was basically done and dusted within a week both times.

When I had my day 10 midwife appointment, they asked whether my lochia had finished so I think it's pretty common for it to be quick after a section.

BrilloSolar · 11/05/2021 11:30

Just had 2nd baby and best thing I did was buy the Tena pants in max and size L (I'm normally size 12) recommended on a thread here. Especially for night, I found that I always leaked even with two pads on. Least sexy things I've ever seen! But so handy to just whip off and bin. I used them for about the first 4 days and even added a pad in too when it was really heavy.

MindyStClaire · 11/05/2021 11:36

Personally I think maternity towels are a bit of a rip off and you'd be fine with normal night towels.

I think as well the mesh over the top is softer in maternity pads to make them kinder to stiches etc? I only had sections so not sure.

OP, I'd get a couple of packs of the really thick ones for the first few days, and to put horizontally in your pants over the scar. I think I moved to the lighter ones after a week or so after both of my sections, and probably could've done so sooner.

newmumfeb21 · 11/05/2021 11:41

I used Lilets and they were good - nonscented & absorbent. Worth getting some thick ones for the first couple of weeks though Smile good luck!!

Roboticcarrot · 11/05/2021 11:44

I loved the really thick ones from boots(sprayed with spritz for bitz- heavenly), but that was because I had a tear and loads of stitches, if you're having a C section I would just grab some of the thinner ones as you don't need the extra padding probably for comfort :)

Babyontheway21 · 11/05/2021 11:47

Thank you, I’ve actually heard someone else say they do a bit of the clean up whilst in with a section. I suppose I’ll just need to wait and see what happens. I feel I’m going to have a drawer full of different products to try lol! Thanks everyone.

RyvitaBrevis · 11/05/2021 11:59

Lillets with wings were my preferred option. They will be absorbent enough for you I think!

Babyontheway21 · 11/05/2021 12:13

@RyvitaBrevis that’s the ones I bought.

Ah, this takes me back! You want the Kotex ones in the black packet with red writing. Not specifically maternity, I think they’re night-time pads but they are super quilted and soft - a duvet for your fanjo.

Shmithecat2 · 11/05/2021 12:18

I hated the thick ones. As soon as I switched to Boots thin maternity pads I was far more comfortable.
