Currently 39 weeks and five days.
Being in hospital since Wednesday night doctors wanted me to be induced due to change in fetal movement and heartbeat.
Wednesday night got given pessary in for 24 hours.. nothing happend no peroid pains/ contractions checked last night after 24 hours still 0CM dialited another pessary was inserted at 1AM this morning. Woke up at 4.50 AM with contractions twice every ten minutes lasting a minute each time for 4 hours then they just stopped? It's now 2PM still nothing has anyone got any suggestions or had anything similar? I am so gutted I feel like nothing is working I get checked at 1AM tonight if still not dilated they will insert the gel? Did this work for anyone or anyone had anything similar feel like my body is failing me nothing is working this is my first child 😿 x

Did they see how dilated you were when you were having contractions?

Sunny1112 · 30/04/2021 14:11

Ps, you are not failing!! Being induced is a long process. Flowers

Mammatobe999 · 30/04/2021 14:19

They didn't check me.. they were just watching contractions closely on monitor gave me codiene two paracetamol I just can't understand why they started at 4.50 and then stopped at 9 and nothing but mild peroid pains since.. they check me again at 1AM tonight if I'm dilated they'll break my waters but my cervix is high up right and closed that was last night so it's so painfull when they are putting stuff up their 😣

Mammatobe999 · 30/04/2021 14:21

Also pessary still in till 1AM tonight then their going to try the gel if still not dilated 😢 I'm so worried if the gel doesn't work I reckon it will be a c section 🙁

Sunny1112 · 30/04/2021 16:02

Do they have new pessaries now?
When I was induced I had one every 6 hours (3 total)
I feel for you op, I actually cried when I had the last pessary put in because it hurt 😂😩
I hope for your sake they can break your waters!

MissMaple82 · 30/04/2021 16:06

I found it all depends on the midwife inserting the pessary. 2 different midwifes inserted pesarries with me and nothing happened then a 3rd did one amd omg it was agony, she got it right up there, nothing like the first ones and within hours I was in full blown labour. 5 hours later I was with child

Mummyme87 · 30/04/2021 16:06

The aim of an induction is to change your cervix to be able to break your waters. That doesn’t necessarily mean contractions.
Midwife is looking at position of cervix, length, consistency, dilation and baby’s head station.
Inductions can take time, sometimes no pin at all, sometimes a little, sometimes loss... it has no indication as to what your cervix is doing.

Lots of walking, squatting , upright/forward/open positions. Have you done any hand expressing? Ask midwife for help and get some syringes. Nipple stimulation produces oxytocin which is why helps get things moving.
Stay positive

Did it hurt like agonising hell when the pessary were inserted?

I've had the same midwife past two nights but if I still haven't dialited by 1AM tonight a doctor is going to put a gel in which is 6 hours apperently this is more stronger x

Not last night night before I handled it a lot better last night was agonising I did nearly cry and she kept having to stop I had to put my firsts under my back due to my cervix been so closed and high. It was painfull and I cried when they went out of the room coz I thought I can't possibly do this again tomorrow night. I'm just so confused at the fact I contracted for five hours and then stopped I have been contracting in last hour every five mins but stopped again!
Mammatobe999 · 30/04/2021 16:26

Also thanks to everyone who has replied to me. I'm so new to all of this so I don't know how to reply to your messages directly underneath x

@Mammatobe999

Honestly, you body is not failing. Inductions can be very long and drawn out. Forcing your body to do something it is likely not ready to do.
It can be super painful to be examined for propess pessary. Ask for gas and air, take some codeine and paracetamol before and ask the midwife to use plenty of gel. You can also ask if they have any instilagel (it’s gel with local anaesthetic in it) to put in before the examination.
Focus on some relaxation techniques aswell

Yes last night when the midwife realised how much pain I was in when inserting the pessary she then said I can have gas and air if they need to examine me tonight but it will be a doctor instead of a midwife x

Mammatobe999 · 30/04/2021 17:01

Also does anyone know what the difference between the gel and the pessary is?? I think coz their so busy and I'm young with it been my first and not knowing their are longing it out I understand their busy but why not try the gel with the pessary?? I'm so confused x

MissMaple82 · 30/04/2021 18:54

Well thats good. Labour can stop and start though and it can drag on. It's all normal. Inductions are always a nightmare one way or another. You've just got to hang in there.

LincolnshireLassInLondon · 30/04/2021 19:08

Hi OP, you're not failing at all! Induction is all about the long game. You'll meet your baby really soon Thanks

Mammatobe999 · 30/04/2021 19:57

Thanks guys. Tried pessary twice so of in for the gel tonight hopefully it works if not they are putting me for a c section which I hoped not to have but I soppose if I have to I have to x

Mummyme87 · 30/04/2021 19:59

The pessary/gel/tablets are all the same but different dosages. You couldn’t have it both at the same time as would be overdosed and higher risk of over stimulating your body. There are also other options including a balloon catheter that can be used if the prostaglandins haven’t done enough.

Mammatobe999 · 30/04/2021 20:00

Prostaglandins gel? Did this work for anyone x
