My second took half the time my first did and was much less painful. I didn't vomit in any of my three labours. If you think you might, tell the midwives as I think there's something they can give you.

That's reassuring to hear. Did you have any pain relief? x

My first was over 20 hours and very difficult. My second was less than four hours from the first contraction and very easy. So easy I didn’t realise she was actually coming until I was walking to the birthing pool and could feel myself pushing.

I didn’t vomit with either but came close with my first.

Also what pain relief did you have either times? Thank you. I'm just so anxious at the moment I'm literally sat in tears and it's 5 months away!!

Please speak to your midwife. Also, if you want to, ask for a review of your first labour. I was advised to do this when I went to a refresher ante natal class (there’s 5 years between my DC). The lady was there supporting her daughter and explained that she had a review following surgery. I can honestly say it’s the best meeting I’ve ever attended and definitely allayed my fears around giving birth to DS2.

My first, induced at 38 weeks, 3 hours 5 min.
Second 20 min, labour and birth, she was so quick she was purple.

weegiemum · 25/04/2021 16:10

First was 37 hours of back to back hell with a ventouse delivery.

Second was 10 hours from waters breaking and I slept for half of that. He slid out no problem.

Wasn't sick either time. Had diamorphine and entonox with both.

stormelf · 25/04/2021 16:11

My first was 18 hours, started off as a relaxing water birth but baby was stuck and finally pushed her out before being moved to theatre. I had a retained placenta so needed surgery three hours after she was born (after being put on a drip to induce contractions again and three different doctor's try to remove placenta manually).

Second was 2 hours from first contraction. Didn't even make it to the hospital.

2nd degree tears with both of them.

Summerzz123 · 25/04/2021 16:12

First was 24hours, second induced and from pessary to birth was 5 hours.
I did vomit with both, so I asked midwives to be ready with anti sickness med for second when I went in. But I do think vomiting tends to be Unusual

tooanxioustofunction · 25/04/2021 16:22

Thank you all.. please keep these reassuring stories coming! Hopefully I won't spend the rest of my Sunday night sobbing in that case!

1st..almost 2 days, back to back, horrible forceps delivery. 2nd barely made it to hospital, genuinely thought I was going to have him in the carpark.

Raindancer411 · 25/04/2021 16:35

First was back to back and I had an epidural. Started back labour pains the night before with no sleep as back ache. Fine by morning but 5pm that evening some waters went. Then had him following morning at 10am. 1.5 litres of blood most and a tear on vessel that needed stitches. He was 3 days early.

Second late after 40 days and induced. Waters broke at 4, drip at 7 and born at 9pm! All the midwifes said it was fast and the one delivering wouldn't check me. When I said I couldn't stop pushing she rushed me onto the bed. No tear this time and on a drip to stem any bleeding. So other than fast and painful, I was out of hospital within 24hrs!

Raindancer411 · 25/04/2021 16:36

Oh forgot first was a ventouse too

mamamalt · 25/04/2021 16:36

First was fairly usual story of first birth, long and drawn out by epidural and faff. Second was born at home in about 3 hours. I puked loads with first and only once with second. But I'm a puker... due my third around the same Time you are so it can't be that bad 😅

Ava50x · 25/04/2021 16:49

Never sicked in any of my 3 births. Had a terrible phobia of vomiting like you, but pregnancy has really helped with that- I vomited so much in each pregnancy that although i'm still hating it, I definitely am not phobic anymore.
1st birth was 24 hours latent labour, then around 3 hours active labour.
2nd birth 2 hours beginning to end- so easy, was a literal walk in the park.
3rd birth 4-5 hours but also very easy.
All in pool with only gas & air at the end.

Good luck!

tinytoucan · 25/04/2021 16:53

First was 10 hours, no pain relief (tried a bit of gas and air but found it distracting).

Second was four hours, no pain relief as she was born in the hospital car park!

I wasn’t sick either time.

Cindy87 · 25/04/2021 16:56

Have you tried hypnobirthing? My 2 births were like night and day - the second was miles more relaxed and empowering, hypnobirthing made all the difference. I did vomit with both - not much you can do about it if you do I suppose. I didn't feel nauseous at all, it just happened.

sarah13xx · 25/04/2021 17:36

I’m pregnant with my first and requesting a section due to severe anxiety. My midwife has assured me that maternal request sections due to anxiety are granted so that has calmed me down a bit. I don’t know which you’re less likely to vomit with, I know sometimes people do after the section. I’m not worried about that bit of it though. Just an option if it’s really affecting your mental health

Survivingmy3yearold · 25/04/2021 18:15

My first was 24 hours with lots of mucking around, synto drip, epidural, ended up with an emergency section. My second was a dream Smile Long latent phase spent at home relaxing with DP, rang hospital at 16:30 as things suddenly ramped up, DD born at 19:04. I second hypnobirthing, it kept me so calm during my long early labour and I honestly think it made a huge difference. I did the positive birth company but there are plenty out there for all tastes and budgets.

KFleming · 25/04/2021 18:25

I’m emetophobic. I felt very sick in my first labour and had a couple of “I am going to be sick right now” moments. I told the midwife and they gave me antiemetics which stopped it. We’re currently ttc and if I get pregnant I’ll be asking for antiemetics as early as poss in labour this time.
