How long did your lochia bleed last after section

It may be the exact same for a natural birth too but as I’m getting a section I was interested to know how long it lasted. Does it differ from person to person drastically or is everyone around the 6 week mark that google says Confused is it a heavy flow for that time?

I had almost none!
The woman who delivered my girl almost 20 years ago told me that she had cleaned me right out.
This was abroad and I’m not quite sure how

RolloTomassi · 14/04/2021 08:37

Longer than my vaginal birth! Natural birth bled for 3 weeks, section ended up being closer to 6 🤷🏻‍♀️

RolloTomassi · 14/04/2021 08:38

Wasn't heavy the whole time though!

Babyontheway21 · 14/04/2021 08:50

Thank you, I’m guessing it might vary drastically from person to person. I might ask for a good clean out whilst lying there lol!!

10 weeks. Twin birth so a double placental site to deal with. Was horrendous.

GlobetrottingPercy · 14/04/2021 08:57

About 6-7 weeks for me but it was very light for the last week.

NeurologicallySpeaking · 14/04/2021 08:59

Mine was not as heavy as a natural birth although residual spotting lasted a while.

However my first actual period after C section was horrific! Proper flooding. No idea why

Letsgetbizzy · 14/04/2021 09:10

6 weeks but twins

Haberdasheryhen · 14/04/2021 09:15

Yes I also had c-section abroad and had virtually no bleeding afterwards.

bluebluezoo · 14/04/2021 09:17

I had very light bleeding for just over 3 weeks. Day 28 got my period (and was exclusively breastfeeding Hmm)

October2020 · 14/04/2021 09:18

The full 6 weeks almost to the day but the last week was pretty light. The first two weeks were like nothing I had ever seen though, so be prepared with lots and lots of pads!

CupcakesK · 14/04/2021 09:20

Also 6-7 weeks, but much lighter for the last 3 weeks. It just seemed to keep on going!

candlemasbells · 14/04/2021 09:22

6 weeks after my emcs but only 3 weeks after my vbac. My periods also started at exactly 12 weeks first time despite bf.

mamaca · 14/04/2021 09:29

Mine lasted about 6 weeks but was very different in flow and appearance than with my vaginal delivery (lighter flow and paler in colour)

MissSmiley · 14/04/2021 09:31

Almost none too
VB a week or so

daisyducky · 14/04/2021 09:34

A few days. I'd my C section in a London hospital just over a year ago. Where as my vaginal delivery was at least 3 weeks.

Like a poster above I've just had my first few periods after the c section and they have been horrifically heavy. I'm really hoping it settles down!

WellTidy · 14/04/2021 09:39

About 4-5 weeks. Mine was very heavy indeed when I was in hospital post birth (midwife kept removing the pad I paid on to weigh it and keep track all the time), so maybe I lost more early on than others whose lasted 6-7 weeks.

I hated lochia - haven't used sanitary towels since my first ever period, and hated the feeling of a pad between my legs. I also found them really itchy.

saffire · 14/04/2021 09:39

It was about 12 weeks in total. Mostly just light bleeding, but it got worse again at 6 weeks after.
And then I must've got pregnant without having a period, and had an ectopic pregnancy which I had to be operated on for and then bled for another 8 weeks.

Chanel05 · 14/04/2021 16:38

Emcs, 12 weeks.

user1493413286 · 14/04/2021 16:41

After my emergency one it lasted 6 weeks but after my elective one it only lasted 2 weeks and was barely there; I wondered if with my elective they had the time to clean it all a bit more!

Chanel05 · 14/04/2021 16:45

I should add also that I lost 2.5L of blood during my c-section and then 150ml per day for the next 4 days from a drain in my womb, on top of the lochia 🥴.

3babylady · 14/04/2021 16:47

EMCS around 10 days - 2 weeks heavy irregular periods for about 3-4 months afterwards
ELCS. around 5-7 days and then a normal period 4 weeks later.

anguauberwaldironfoundersson · 14/04/2021 16:56

6 weeks but it was incredibly light the entire time.

Roomba · 14/04/2021 17:10

Around six weeks after both my c sections (one emergency, one elective). Tbh, it wasn't much heavier than my periods for the first couple of weeks, then it was lighter but just dragged on and on for ages. It was noticeably heavier after I overdid things physically though, even after a few weeks.

Roomba · 14/04/2021 17:13

I hated lochia - haven't used sanitary towels since my first ever period, and hated the feeling of a pad between my legs. I also found them really itchy.*

God, same here! Used tampons from day two of my first period so the lochia stage was just horrible. No idea how people put up with pads all the time!
