Outpatient Induction

Did anyone opt for an outpatient induction? If you did - did it work or did you end up having to have further intervention?

I'm 41+1 and I'm booked for this on Friday. I've had 2 sweeps, my cervix is soft but too posterior for the actual 'sweep' so on both occasions they said it wouldn't do much.

I always had the idea of labouring at home for as long as possible so the outpatient induction seems to fit with that preference but I'm just wondering whether I'm kidding myself now that I'm going to be able to do this without intervention.

Hi there - yes I did. I was the same, I wanted to be at home for as long as I could but I was overdue so I was induced.
Gel to soften my cervix. 6hr wait. Then they broke my waters. 2hr wait. Nothing happened so they hooked me up to a drip. It did take a while to get going & it was massively boring ... from established labour to my son being born was 3hrs. So went pretty quick once it was happening.

Hey. No I didn't, I was a inpatient for my induction. I too wanted to be at home for as long as I could but for health reason they wanted me in the hospital for the entire induction. I had 3 sweeps beforehand which none worked then I had to get induced the following Friday. When I got there they gave me gel to soften my cervix, but had to give me the gel twice for it to work. They then broke my waters. Contractions started about an hour after they broke my waters. I was then in labour for 8 hours. So I didn't need a drip, so maybe you won't. It started quickly, even the midwife was shocked 🤣
