Induction

Hi all,
Just wanted to find out some positive induction stories.
So, this is my second baby - I was induced with my first and had to have epidural in the end because of the dreaded drip but baby was born fine and only had grazes! - god knows how!! Can't say ot was a traumatic birth at all - just pretty painful!

This time, I am currently 41+2weeks, had a sweep yesterday and midwife was able to get into cervix and I was about 2cm dilated - mucus plug has come away but currently still waiting a day later.
Anyway... I have another sweep booked for Monday and then induction booked for Tuesday (13days over) if need be.
I just wanted to find out from second time mums if they've had to be induced after a sweep which indicated that they were dilated and whether the induction process was shorter because you were 'ready' to give birth?
Many thanks :)

All women after they have had a baby start at 1-2 cm. Your cervix never fully closes. Every woman is different. It's all about how high the head is, that determines the pathway. Too high they may not induce you. It's also your choice to be induced. Good luck 🤞

3 inductions here. Luckily no damage from
Any of them and no need for any interventions!

Was induced 42 weeks with DS1 and had epidural prob was the “worst” in sense it took the longest for baby to be born.

DS2 induced 38 weeks (placenta failed / he hadn’t grown for 3 weeks) very much straight forward induction. Had epidural again but I gave birth in the 2018 heatwave and it was so hot that my back was just pouring sweet and the epidural didn’t quite work kept coming out because I was just so hot and sweaty. Worked enough tho that with gas and air gave birth no issues or pain! Happened quite suddenly went from 4cm to 10 very fast and it was a quite a shock to the dr just checking my notes and chatting to midwife when i
Said I needed to push Grin baby out in 6 pushes

DD induced again due to placenta failing at 38 weeks. Back to back labour so it was quite slow to progress. Epidural didn’t work and before the lady could come back to fix it I’d gone from 4 to 10 again and baby was out in 2 pushes. Most painful because I just had gas and air. Also most dramatic because it happened during the midwife change over so my morning shift midwife hadn’t even finished saying hi before she was holding my baby 🤣

Had induction with my 3rd.
Sweep on Monday,no action, induction plan for Saturday.
Dr decision was made at 12pm but midwives busy until 6pm.
Was taken to the side room on ante natal ward for pessary but MW checked and said I was 1cm dilated and they could try breaking watres first to see how it goes.
Transferred to Labour Ward,MW broke the waters at 7pm,30 minutes on CTG monitor and decided to go to the loo.I think the walk there helped me to start my contractions(it was a long corridor) and by the time I was on my way back,my contractions were pretty strong.
At 9pm DS was with us.
After reading all terrible induction stories I was petrified and this experience really surprised me.

Induction with my 3rd, took ages to get started with the pessaries but then got waters broken. After that quick and straightforward and no different to the others, no drip needed. Good luck, hope yours goes smoothly.

4 inductions here. The more overdue I was the quicker the process.

2 I had at term took days and had ARM but the 2 that were at 42+3 and 42 needed 1 and 2 pessaries respectively only.

No other intervention etc.

3 inductions out of 4 births

1st was 12hrs
2nd was spontaneous at 40+9 And following many sweeps. 6hrs from waters breaking.
3rd induced at 42wks, waters broken and she was born 2hrs later.
4th induced at 40wks due to size, early for me so took the drip to get me going as waters breaking didn't do anything. He was born 4hrs after they got me to established labour with the drip.

Expecting DC5 and expecting to be induced as I'm 41 and they want to induce by 41wks.

Induced with baby number 2 at 40+2, due to waters breaking at 40+1.

Didn't have the propress as 2cm dilated, went straight to drip at 3cm dilated and she was born just under 3 hours later with just gas and air for the last 30 minutes. I had heard plenty of horror stories but didn't find it any worse than my first non-induced birth.

Good luck whatever happens!

I'm 14 weeks and ready to give birth. I want to meet my babygirl already. Why does it feel like forever

Kaayyyx · 17/03/2021 10:25

I had 3 sweeps. On the third sweep they said I was 2cm dilated. I had my induction about a week later. They broke my waters for me and a hour later I started having contractions, which happened pretty quickly the midwife said. I was then in labour for 8 hours. So the contractions started pretty quick. Lol

Hi OP
I was induced with both DC, due to being overdue. DC1 birth was bad, both during and after. DC2 birth was great, honestly, when I look back on it! I had a couple of good sweeps leading up to it and on the induction day. 24 hour Pessary did not start labour so my waters were broken and then contractions started pretty soon after, so I didn't need the drip. DC2 was born 2.5 hours after my waters were broken. I tore in the same way as DC1 but felt loads better after and much faster recovery. Good luck!

I went into labour on my due date with number 1. With my second, I was 3 cm dilated on my due date and had a favourable sweep but nothing happened 1 week later so at 41 weeks, I had a balloon induction that kicked off labour. However, the balloon didn't fall out despite me then being 5cm dilated (they think it got stuck against baby's head) so broke my waters as that's the next induction step after the balloon. Things went very quickly after that (tbh, I don't think I needed the waters breaking!) - baby arrived within 2 hours of having my waters broken with just a small tear.

My friend was induced with her first quite recently and recounts it as a positive experience.
She went a few days overdue, she had had a few sweeps prior. Think she had the pessary. She didnt end up needing an epidural, just entonox & diamorphine. No forceps or anything needed for baby and he was quite a big baby.
YouTube is also brilliant for positive birth stories Smile

With my second I had a sweep at 38 weeks due to high blood pressure, was told I was about 2cm. I had a couple more sweeps and was induced at 39 weeks, i had the pessary in for a couple of hours and went into labour, no need for waters to be broken or the drip. When I had the pessary my cervix was still quite far back so I wasn’t expecting it to work. I had the pessary at about 10.30pm and it fell out about 2 hours later. They put it back in and I started getting pains at 3.30am, contractions came on quite strong so they took the pessary out. Baby was born at 7.40am.
