C-Section question!

I'm a FTM having a planned CS next Thursday, due to covid my husband can only join me when I go down to theatre. I didn't think to ask the dr at the time the process after being taken to theatre. Are you transferred there to another room to wait or is it to the actual theatre to be prepped? How long does prep take before your partner joins you?
I ask because we only live 10mins from the hospital, so he could drive up when necessary rather than potentially sitting in the car park for hours!
Thanks in advance Smile

I was told to arrive at the hospital at 7:30am. I waited in a private room all day, then I was moved to a labour room to be prepped (10 min), then went into theatre. After surgery I was in recovery for about an hour, then up to the ward. This was at Croydon in South London.

Call the midwife unit and ask as each hospital may be different. I went in at 8am and DH was with me. We were in a waiting room then we were taken to the theatre prep room and on to the theatre. Post CS DH could stay with us in the recovery room and when we went to the ward he had to go home.

Worth asking as you could be waiting around literally all day if there are emergencies bumping you down the queue

Prep is around 20 minutes in my experience.

As the pp said, it could be any time as you are likely to get bumped down because of emergencies.

With DD2 I had to be there early in the morning, and she wasn’t born til 3.30pm. The waiting was an eternity. Is it the case that the more complicated sections are done first, often women who’ve had lots of previous sections, with the more straightforward ones left til later? DS was my third section. I arrived early in the morning and he was born at 12pm.

However, even if you only live 10 mins from the hospital, it’ll take time to park, reach you, etc. Could you ask the hospital if they’ll be happy to let you know when the woman before you goes down to theatre so that he can set off then?

Thank you for your responses- I think I'll ask on the day where I am in the queue and go from there. Smile

We went into hospital at 7:30am (DH with me) and went to the postnatal ward. There were 2 of us having planned sections and I was second, so couple of nervous hours sitting around until we went down to theatre around 10:30, and baby was born at 10:51. Apparently at our hospital if there aren't any emergencies they do you in the order you turn up!
After delivery DH was told he'd have to leave after 2 hours. In reality the curtains were closed and nobody seemed to notice he'd been there just over 3 hours by the time he left.
