hi everyone!

sorry if this has already been discussed!

well i am 42 weeks on tuesday (sigh) and due to be induced on wednesday evening with the gel.

was wondering if anyone has this, whats it like? what was your experience of it etc..

heard that it can make contractions very painful and feels like chilli powder, makes you very sore, is this true?

sorry to ask for so much info but i am understandably nervous as its my first baby.

thanks. xxx

I was induced with ds as i was 42weeks as well.
I didnt have the gel but had the pessaries, i dont know if theres much of a difference though.

I was given first pessaries at 10 am and had 2nd pessaries at about 4 pm, started feeling contractions at about 5 and they did come pretty fast and strong but i had asked for gas and air fairly early on and im glad i did as i was getting contractions every couple of minutes.

My induction ended in emergency cs as ds was distressed and i wasnt dilating.
I hope everything goes well for you.

I was induced. Had 2 lots of pessaries and then the drip. They say it makes contractions feel worse as they tend not to come gradually but thick and fast pretty quickly.
My advise would be patient. Don't expect things to happen as soon as the pessary is inserted (although it may well do).

Don't be afraid to have an epidural either.
I ended up giving birth naturally so just to show you it doesn't always end in C-sec,

Good luck you will be fine!

Well- I say naturally but I mean as naturally as you can give birth after being artifically started off!

I was induced at 41 weeks + 5 days, and he took three days of pessaries, drips, water-breakings to come.

No one ever told me it might take a while. But once they put in the epidural, and dh and I fell asleep, I went from one cm dilated to 10 cm dilated in about three hours! So I didn't feel anything at all.

He then came out the 'natural way' - although believe me, after three days, I was BEGGING for a Caesarian.

hello all, thank you for all your responses, its nice to hear it from people who have experienced it. it does seem that most end in cs though. i am planning on gas and air and pethedine if i need further pain relief, however if the contractions come thick and fast and the pain is bad i may request epidural. looks as though i will have to wait and see what will happen as all experiences are different.

thanks again. xxxxx

is this your first? With ds2 i was induced. gel didnt work had arm.
my tip would be dont let them put a line in your arm unnecessarily - they assume that you will need further meds with induction. i didnt had great fast active labour once i got going but was constantly bugged by the thing in my wrist that was never needed. for their convenience not yours. be assertive and an induced labour does not have to be medically managed all the way. some places like to strap you to the bed with a monitor too, ask if really necessary and can they do a trace then if normal let you off. keep moving and upright. good luck very exciting!

HI Ickle,

I was induced with both mine first time with gel second with pessaries. Managed both on gas and air and both were vaginal deliveries.

Agree with Moopy keep mobile if you can it certainly seemed to help in my case.

Good Luck
