Just found out I'll most likely be labouring in a room of up to 6 women. I thought there weren't any major benefits to going private but now I regret not.

If 5 other women are in pain and handling it in various ways how are you meant to remain calm and in the zone?

Can you confirm where you are?

In Britain, you may be on a labour ward in very early labour. But you will be transferred to a single room as soon as you are in established labour.

Though I was in a home-from-home unit, which as well as your own delivery room you could wander about and use a large common room sort of place, which obviously would have as many women (and birth partners) in there as wanted to use it. That was pre-covid though, so that might not be available at the moment.

If there are no vacant rooms, and no prospect of one becoming free in time, then I'd expect them to seek a hospital transfer, rather that leave in a ward.

In the U.K. once in active labour you aren’t on a ward

I'm in Ireland and once I was in active labour I was in my own room.
