Herpes 2 , home birth?

I had my first outbreak of genital herpes last summer, and now it's rare to have an outbreak.

Anyone been in or know someone who's got hs2, and managed to have a home birth? Is there any reason I couldn't etc. Having a Google it says there's a tablet I can take after 36 weeks to reduce the risk of an outbreak, but could the midwives still say no and that I'd need to go to a hospital?

This is my 3rd baby, my labour's have all been very quick and I would love to have a home birth!

Thanks!

you can take antivirals to reduce risk of an outbreak, I would say sooner rather than later although the same tablet should stall an outbreak. As long as there is no outbreak labour should be normal. so sounds to me like get the antivirals sorted with GP and agree date to start taking a full doe (rather than a maintenance dose) and that is as much as you can do other than eat right and stay healthy

If you are not having an outbreak at the time of the birth, you can have a normal birth or homebirth, it won't make any difference. You might want to take anti virals as the above poster says but it depends how likely you think you are to get another outbreak, given how often you've had them during pregnancy - it's not compulsory. If you are having an outbreak when labour starts there is a small chance the baby may be affected so they may advise a c section although it's pretty unlikely to pass to the baby, as it's not your first outbreak so you should have produced anti bodies that protect the baby to some extent.

You should be on Aciclovir from 36 weeks if you've ever been diagnosed with genital herpes, that'll suppress the virus for birth and you can have a normal delivery wherever you like. You would need to get the prescription from iCash (may be called something different in your area but the sexual health/GUM clinic). Make sure you tell them in advance and they'll ensure you have a prescription. Good luck with your home birth
