Hair Necessities

Hi,

24 weeks and starting to think about labour properly. Took 18 months to conceive as I have PCOS so until recently, I haven't allowed myself to think beyond 'staying pregnant', which sounds stupid but I've had a few friends at work who have had either late miscarriages or been totally unable to conceive.

Due to my PCOS I have hirsutism, excess hair in places you really don't want it. I was going to ask my MW anyway at next appointment, but does anyone know what's okay and not okay with hair removal?? I am a fairly regular waxer, so that would be a first place, but obviously the baby isn't gonna wait for a wax appointment before arriving, and shaving certain bits is hard when not pregnant, impossible when pregnant 🤷🏻‍♀️

Any thoughts?

I shaved my legs, underarms and bikini line right up until I had my baby at 39 weeks. I used a mirror for my bikini line and sat on the floor as I literally couldn't see anything! 🤣
When you're in labour the doctors and MW's don't care if everything is hairy, so don't worry too much if you can't reach in places you used to!
I think it's just personal preference. One thing I would say is don't use hair removal creams as the chemicals soak into your skin and they advise against that. To contradict that comment my friend used hair removal cream during her pregnancy and her baby came out fine.
Given your circumstances I would imagine you don't want to tempt fate with anything so just stick with the razor!
I wish you all the best!

They really don't care so do what you feel you want. The only thing midwives really ask is that you are clean, if possible shower at home before you go to the hospital, my friend is a midwife and she said that the hardest thing is when a mother in labour is noticeably dirty because they have to gently tell her to shower or help her with a bed bath, not nice for them and embarrassing. Hair is no issue, we used to all be hairy there!
