Bra's during delivery

yorkshireeveninglost · 18/01/2021 10:50

Hi!
Can anyone recommend what I should wear for delivery?
I'm quite flat chested, don't want to go braless, but don't know what kind of bra to buy which will still be comfortable!
Thank you!

I didn't want to read and run. I had a really comfy bra on that I've worn time and time again but in hindsight I'd have brought a nursing bra as I breastfed. In saying that I ended up in 2 gowns bra less as it was a lot more comfortable and although I was a bit self-conscious before having a baby, after them doing my ELCS and seeing me down there, I didn't care as I felt like I'd lost my dignity anyway and none of the people who catch a glimpse of your boobs care or will see you again. Lol. I'm not sure that helps but choose what works for you.

ThePricklySheep · 18/01/2021 10:55

Any bra will be fine Smile

smoothchange · 18/01/2021 11:00

A crop top?

Newmama29 · 18/01/2021 11:01

I wore a nursing sports bra, so that when I then tried to BF I had easy access without being totally exposed. However, after a very traumatic birth with around 15 people in the room seeing my hooha, my least concern was the midwife seeing my boobs afterwards 😂

H&M do a great range of nursing ware which are so so comfy!

ApolloandDaphne · 18/01/2021 11:02

I expect your usual bra will be fine. I can no longer recall whether I wore a bra or not. No-one should see your boobs anyway if you are wearing a t shirt or nightie or whatever.

20viona · 18/01/2021 11:07

You really won't care in the throes of labour. I wore a nursing bra even though I didn't have any plans to breastfeed and it was comfortable.

4amWitchingHour · 18/01/2021 11:10

Meh, I was naked the whole time. Didn't intend to be, packed a bikini top for the birthing pool (lol), but once it all kicked off I didn't care and there wasn't time or inclination to find specific clothes. Whatever you intend to give birth in, wear to the hospital, but be prepared that you may want to get your kit off.

I wore something very similar to this OP: www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/carriwell-organic-crossover-sleeping-nursing-bra-e9228.html?gclid=CjwKCAiAgJWABhArEiwAmNVTBw3SQPQktZ7pz2Mo8uNGXJR_yNhV6vxNHAW-Fyvx0RFmYf1Ja0eI4xoCrQEQAvD_BwE

I searched for a sleeping bra. It was great. Really soft and no clasps or wires or straps. Super cosy and easy to feed baby ad you just pull it to the side.

Congrats and good luck!

Sorry this link should be better

SoDiorDarling · 18/01/2021 11:14

I wore like a comfy (with no support) sports bra/crop top thing. I had a water birth through so didn't think it through as it went completely see through Grin genuinely didn't care at the time but I did want to save some modesty.

gmailconfusion2 · 18/01/2021 11:15

My bra had to come off for the epidurals and spinal block, but did make trying to feed later much easier

MrsXx4 · 18/01/2021 11:31

You so won’t care!! I am an extremely private person even hide from my husband most of the time but I walked into my delivery suite and stripped naked immediately!! I couldn’t have anything touching me! When my birthing pool was ready the midwife had to convince me to cover up to walk round to the new room! Blush

However, when I got to the pushing stage I was out of the pool and wearing a big baggy t-shirt which they whipped off of me anyway once they wanted to place the baby on me!

I did but some nursing crop tops which were very comfy from mothercare. I basically lived in them and still haven’t gone back to underwired bras!

MaizeBlouse · 18/01/2021 12:00

You may not care, as others have said, but it is totally fine if you do care and wish to keep a top on.

FelicityBob · 18/01/2021 12:15

Something that’s easy to pull down/take off for skin to skin and immediate breastfeeding if that’s what you want. Bras are a pain if you need any IVs. Easier to go without

movingonup20 · 18/01/2021 12:23

I had a sleep nursing bra, soft and comfortable, and wore a hospital gown

Lexie365 · 18/01/2021 12:33

i wish people would stop saying about most things "you won't care once your in labour" i was in labour for over 2 days and still cared lol everyone is different. anything without underwire i would say op, maybe a sports bra type that you could put your own inserts padding into? very comfortable but still makes ur boobs look bigger.

Kinsters · 18/01/2021 13:14

I definitely cared! Maybe not once my daughter was born but during labour I'd have hated to be bra less. I just wore my usual soft non wired bra but if there's a next time I'd wear a nursing bra.

3JsMa · 18/01/2021 15:58

I usually was in nursing bra or braless but during my 4th labour didn't have time to even think what I wear.I had soft, microfibre bra which was soft enough to pull down when it was time for the first feed. Anything soft and comfy will be good.

IDK2020 · 18/01/2021 22:35

Sorry to jump into thread with really stupid question, but I assume for c section birth you wear surgical gown and no underwear (bra or knickers) for the surgery?

Do you stay in your hospital gown afterwards or you’re able to change into nightdress once you’re recovering on the ward.

I’m going into hospital on Wednesday and can’t stop fixating on really small details like this, where I’m going to put my bag etc where I don’t know what to expect.

Thanks

DarkChocolateMint · 18/01/2021 23:15

I had to remove my bra for spinal this time.

Last time i felt an overwhelming need to be BUTT naked lol!

I have good bras from mothercare - everyone I know recommends M&S too xx

ChocOrange1 · 18/01/2021 23:21

I bought a load of nice new maternity/nursing bras when I was 37 weeks. I was wearing one for the first time when DD was born and just before she came out I ended up asking the midwives to help me take it off so she could have skin-to-skin without getting my nice new bra all bloody 🤣

RavingAnnie · 18/01/2021 23:55

I was completely naked. Not by choice. I couldn't have anything touching my skin at all. And I didn't give a shit.

ALew15 · 19/01/2021 11:58

32 weeks here and I'm quite big busted. I plan on wearing a crop top or stretchy nursing bra. Seen some nice cheap ones on Boohoo

Chanel05 · 19/01/2021 17:02

I'd go for a loose sports bra but in all honesty as other posters have said, you truly won't care! I didn't even go to hospital in a bra. Also, I was in a room and had to change and had a midwife running after me with a gown as I started to saunter off completely naked other than my shoes to the other room, insisting I didn't care.
