Thought this would be better in this topic

Hi.
My first birth was very traumatic with my 1st child. I was in labour at home for days but the hospital put it down to a water infection without even seeing me to confirm this.
Days later I pushed to be seen drove myself to the hospital and it's lucky I did as I was 9cm when I got there. Following this my baby was 5 weeks early, I had to have a episiotomy, baby's heart rate was dropping they almost have to get forceps involved I was torn here there and everywhere it was just an overall awful experience to the point I even made a complaint to the hospital after due to how I was treated with the water infection situation.
I have recently found out I am pregnant again and by no means do I think a c section is an easier option, I just feel for me the pain of the recovery of a section would be better for me than to go through all that again, mentally and physically but I'm not sure how I stand on requesting one?
Does anyone know or has anyone done this?
Thanks

It was to late for pain relief with my first labour also so it was just an over all traumatic experience and the thought of going though that again honestly mentally makes me cry

I'm sorry you has such an awful first experience.

You can make a maternal request for a CS. Start by taking to your midwife. You should be offered an appointment at a birth choices clinic. If you still want a CS then your consultant should either agree or, if not, refer you to a consultant who will agree. It's worth looking up the stats about ELCS vs. VB - pros and cons for you and baby, firstly because being better informed is always good and because it helps you show that you're serious and gives you a start point if you need to push for your choice.

The NICE guidance is a good starting point:

Sorry to hear about your experience Sad Read up on c sections, the hospital should provide you with the info for the correct website or leaflets if you ask. Just so you've got all the info. If you made a complaint about what happened I would imagine it would be on the system, so that may well help you case in wanting a c section.
I've had an EMCS, the c section it self was fine and I recovered fairly quickly. That's just my experience tho.
If you get a pushy doctor ask to speak to another one.
I've had a slightly pushy one who just made me want my ELCS more.
I've also had a lovely female consultant who was a bit more equal when discussing the pros and cons of vbacs and c sections. She actually made me a little bit more comfortable with the idea of a vbac.
Your experience may differ because you delivered your first vaginally and didn't have a c section, given what you went through tho I hope you don't have to fight for one. Best of luck Thanks
