I'm now pregnant with number 2.
I don't know what to do regarding the birth and if elective c section is the safest option or a vbac is possible? My waters broke naturally and my cervix didn't dilate and my baby was in distress so they gave me an emcs. My baby was a big baby as well.

Hi @Lottiebugz22 I was exactly the same as you with my birth but my DS was not in distress but I was 60 hours into labour and i only got to 6cm so out he came c section as I literally couldn't do anymore as I was exhausted. DS was in an awkward position so I predicted the inevitable!
Anyway, if I had a second I'd go for a c section. The doctors, midwives and HV have told me that's my best option given what happened with DS.
To be honest, I think I'd prefer that, as I think I would so anxious about it all going wrong again!
I know c sections are no walk in the park but at least you will have a date, get organised and go in calm and collected, knowing all will be well 👍🏻

Same here. Dilation stopped at 5cm, baby's heartbeat started to stutter and stop, it was horrific. Emergency c sec. I chose elective c secs after that, just didn't want to risk that ever again, it was just utterly traumatic.best decision ever.

I totally agree with both of you these have been my thoughts too. I don't want to be pushed to try for a national though. Is it 100 percent my decision or does the doctor have to agree?

I also had an emcs in same circumstances with first dc then a successful vbac with 2nd child, funnily enough the day before my cesarean was scheduled for! You need to do what's right for you.

@Lottiebugz22 I was told not even to consider a VBAC if I have another baby, they just told me c section and that's it.
Thankfully this is something that I don't have to worry about right bow as my DS is only 16 weeks! 🤣
However, as @RockawayBeach you do what's right for you.
Once you're at the point of discussing your birth plan or when you see the doctor at your 12 week scan, have a chat with them then about it and properly talk through your options.
It's a no brained for me that I'd have another section, but everyone is different, as is every pregnancy
I wish you all the best ❤️

I had the same with my first birth, and elected for a c section with the second. I found the first so stressful that I couldn’t face another EMCS, it was horrific.

YouJustDoYou · 15/01/2021 09:19

I was told i could try for vbac if I wanted but because of the way my body reacted to birth the first time they said they recommend only c secs if possible. Honestly, it was just so much better the 2nd and 3rd3timez, nice, relaxed, knew what to expect, csecs aren't a walk in a park but I would never ever personally go for a natural birth again it was so horrific.

I had a vbac after getting to 9cm dilated. If you have no other risk factors (I did btw) then it’s considered to be the safer option.

Did you you dilated at all? How long between waters breaking and c section. These are all factors which may impact your decision.

Ultimately it’s your choice but it’s major surgery and doctors need you to give informed consent and to do that they have to tell you the risks first.

Thatwentbadly · 15/01/2021 09:27

To be clear I had a vbac after only dilating to 9cm the first time round.

Lottiebugz22 · 15/01/2021 22:23

Waters broke and was left 24 hours and no contractions and no dilation. Baby was in distress so emergency c section. X

I had an emcs with dd2 after a failed induction. My waters broke, but I didn't dilate very much at all, despite being on the drip for over 12 hours.
I opted for an elective with dd2, and they agreed. They said I could try for a vbac if I wanted, but I really didn't want!
Dd2 was born in the first lockdown , so it was much better in terms of planning and childcare for dd1.
It was a very civilised, calm experience. Obviously there are risks, but I couldn't go through the whole induction process again, just to have it end in emcs again. I was definitely less anxious this time.
