Optional induction

Currently pregnant with my second child and wondering if anyone has ever had (if it's even possible) to have an elective induction.

I had an induction with my first and it was the best way it could have happened for us and very keen to repeat it this time round.

I live in England and it will be with the nhs, does anyone know if this is possible?

I don't believe you can. Your induced due to a medical reason (as you most likely know) so if there is no reason this time round to induce you they won't, unless you get to 42 weeks.
I'd discuss it with your midwife but it's highly unlikely I'm afraid

I have never heard of optional induction I think most like to avoid it if possible , also it's not guaranteed to go as smoothly , both my DD's were induced , the first was much easier and quicker than the second.

Thanks, I didn't think it was a thing as I've never heard of people choosing it but was still hoping 😂 It's more the ability to plan, knowing when it would be would make life soooo much easier, but don't like the idea of a c section (obviously if it's necessary at the time then I would but not optionally).

No you can't technically but currently induction rates are through the roof anyway. They induce for almost any reason the can find.

I'm currently in hospital being induced at 39 weeks because I asked my consultant and he said yes! If you've got a good enough reason they will do whatever you want (within reason)

My mum had an elective induction in 1999. She was induced at 40+1. She was 35 at the time, and this was baby number 5 for her. She was induced because she had very limited options for childcare for we older kids. Basically, she needed a set date and time for her friend to come in to look after us. No medical indication at all.

All you can do is ask. I bet it will confuse your midwife. Most people are desperate to avoid induction!
