Induction without pessary

Just after some experiences of being induced.
My community midwife has told me that she thinks they'll be able to break my waters when I go in to be induced - I'm already 2cm but cervix was still long and behind baby's head yesterday.
I'd prefer it if they could just start off with trying to break my waters, as I don't like the thought of having to wait 24 hours for the pessary to do anything, but has this happened for anyone? Will they just give me the pessary first as standard?

I never got a pessary when I was induced. My waters were broken and I was put on a drip to cause contractions

They tried to break my waters but they couldn’t. I didn’t have the pessary, it was the gel. You may find you start in labour after getting the pessary.

Nice guidelines say the pessary/gel should still be given first even if you have a favourable cervix. Research shows there is a significantly higher likelihood of getting a vaginal birth if prostaglandin is used first.

I never had a pessary, just my waters broken, then I had the drip.

I had pessary lay for 24 hours they said that night they would break my waters in the morning. Couple hours later my waters went on there own. Then was in full labour put on drip. Baby came very quick after that

My cervix where to long also had to have the pressary. Honestly if far better experience for me than them
Trying to break my waters

I had 2 pessarys 6 hours apart then my waters broken at 3cm. My daughter was born 2 hours later.

Letshavesometea · 17/12/2020 03:53

They could have broken mine after a couple of cm, however the advice I was given at the time was the pessary as they said while possible, it would be difficult and uncomfortable. I got pessary, waters broken around 4cm, with no discomfort or issues.

The hospital I went to for my induction use balloons for 24hrs to start to get the cervix opening unless you are 3/4cm. Then it's just waters broken and 4hr wait, then if not working the drip.

BounceyBumblebee · 17/12/2020 04:34

I've had 3 inductions. The first with the drip was horrible.

The second 2 with pessarys and they were fine. Its like going into natural labour.

I heard that if your waters are broken and contraction don't start in 24 hours thet put you on the drip. I was keen to avoid that so I asked for the pessary on the 3rd baby when they offered to just break my waters.

I was induced at 39+1 with my 3rd. Was told cervix was 1cm dilated but high up. I chose prostin over the balloon catheter. When midwife inserted it she said I would need more 6hrs later as was unlikely to work with first tablet. Couple hours later started getting pains which I was told would just be prostin starting to take effect but was unlikely to be start of proper labour. Couple hours after that my 7lb3oz baby was born!! They did break my waters but literally 5mins before delivering her because the membranes were bulging and she was actually born with bits of membranes hanging round her neck!!

I was in a very similar situation with DC2 and had two rounds of gel 6 hours apart. Whole thing was around 13 hours from first gel. Was a great delivery with no need for the drip or any other intervention. Had the drip with dc1 and was keen to avoid it second time around.

PopsicleHustler · 23/12/2020 15:54

What is this balloon induction thing?
Sounds very odd

cupofdecaf · 23/12/2020 16:11

Waters broken, waited but not much happened so put on the drip. 3 hours of contractions and baby arrived.

Good luck

I went straight to the drip with my induction. It didn't work so I had a c-section.
