Inducing labour

Billy2007 · 08/12/2020 10:13

Please do not reply to this if your going to tell me baby will come when he is ready or shame me for wanting to naturally induce labour

I am booked in for a induction this Friday. I have tried everything! Last week I ate a whole pineapple every day for 7 days, walked everyday, been taking raspberry leaf tea capsules for 3 weeks, had sex and orgasms, drank tonic water, walked up stairs and up hills, tried this workout on YouTube that guarantees labour but nothing, bounce on my ball everyday, clary sage and lavender baths every night, meditation but literally nothing is working :( I don't want to be induced I would just like him to come naturally!!!

I remember this feeling. Turns out for me nothing worked but I had a very straightforward (and fast!) induction. If I'm ever pregnant again I'll definitely not dread being induced the way I did the first time round.

Could try a very hot curry and drive over a really pot holey road. Fingers crossed for you.

MumChats · 08/12/2020 10:28

I've heard nipple stimulation can set things off. 1 side for an hour. Good luck!

Terriblecreature · 08/12/2020 10:31

I don't have any other suggestions unfortunately.

U sound like me almost 2 years ago when I was pregnant with DS1. Nothing worked, and I mean nothing! Only god send was that the day I went in to be induced I ended up contracting on my own so didn't need induced afterall. Was also a very quick labour! X

DoubleHelix79 · 08/12/2020 10:37

The only method with at least some evidence behind it is nipple stimulation. It releases oxytocin, which is one of the key hormones involved in inducing labour. A quick tweak won't do it tough, you're looking at 10-15 minutes at a time, regularly throughout the day. Probably not a lot of fun, but perhaps worth a try. Some other things that are often recommended, such as spicy food, have been tested and there is no evidence that they have any effect. Good luck OP.

Be careful with the clary sage oil. It gave me horrendous contractions that did absolutely nothing cervix-wise

Are you at the bargaining phase? My mum said letting an eggplant explode in her oven, not a euphemism she was making babganoush dip, started labour with me.

I listened to a hypnobirthing induce labour track. It didnt start me off but it helped me stay a bit calmer.
A bloody good cry might help release some feelings. Is there anything you are worried about? Trying to sort that out might.

Good luck you can do this!

I tried all the things and still ended up with an induction at 41+4. The induction itself was fine. It took a while (3days) but I wasn’t in constant pain or strapped to a monitor constantly or anything. I was able to go for walks in the hospital grounds and things (precovid). I didn’t need or want any pain relief until the baby was only a couple of hours away from being born. I had a epidural at that point- I’m in France and it was basically all I was offered, I might have been ok with gas and air or something if I’d had that option.

pumpkinpie01 · 08/12/2020 11:14

I tried everything too and nothing worked, I really didn't want to be induced either but had no choice. I had the pessary 3 times , first 2 times it did nothing . 3rd time the contractions started a few hours later, they were thick and fast straight away and I had a 4 hour labour . Honestly it's not that bad.

Ginmonkey84 · 08/12/2020 21:10

Sounds completely against everything people say but what about trying to do nothing? Relax, eat good food, watch a funny movie and try and get your natural oxytocin going. And if you feel like you need to do something which I’m sure you do above all go for the nipple stimulation it’s the only thing that really releases oxytocin. You need to mimic feeding so I’d say get a pump x

AliceMck · 08/12/2020 21:18

I had 2 inductions, do what’s best for you. First was for medical reasons, 2nd for personal. Only had the one come naturally and I’m 100 certain that was down to having sex the night before.

Just because you have an induction dosnt mean you can’t do the rest naturally. I needed help with #1 and had forceps, #3 everything was natural once labour started.

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 08/12/2020 23:07

Curry
Castor oil
Have you tried having a sweep? That's what put me in labour

Sunshine1235 · 08/12/2020 23:19

How far overdue are you? You don’t have to be induced if you don’t want to, you can ask to wait a couple more days or to be monitored daily instead. I was really pushed into booking an induction at 40+10 but refused it on the day and baby arrived 40+12 of her own accord. Hopefully you’ll go into labour before your induction but you have the right to refuse it on the day and give yourself more time if you want to.

Vindaloo worked for me! Midwifes suffered though!!

rorosemary · 09/12/2020 00:45

I know that there are alot of induction horror stories on the internet but my induction really was fine, as was my (hospital)neighbours. So if you do need to be induced, it really can go well. I had pills, then a balloon (because pills took abit long to work, then they broke my waters and a while after that I slowly started getting contractions. For most of it up until the contractions I was chilling with a book or with DH watching youtube videos (not UK, he was allowed to visit during the day). Had a lot of cups of tea brought to me, good enough food (just not having to think it up and cook it myself is a big plus tbh) and a chatty midwife with a sense of humour.
