Hello
I am considering an elective, currently registered with King's but was wondering if C/W or anything else would be better? Anyone can share a recent experience and give some advice?
I am at loss.

Thank you!

Why are you at a loss??
All the big London teaching hospitals including Kings are excellent.

I had my c-section at kings and it went very smoothly. For some reason I fall into the catchment for St Thomas' post natal care and that was awful. Ended up back at kings due to an infection.

I had one at st Mary’s (for breech) this October. Went very well. How have you found your ante natal care so far? Even though they obviously won’t perform the op you will still have a mw with you in theatre.

Thank you (sorry it took so long). Was it recently? were partners allowed?

@NWnature antenatal care is ok, next week is the first time I'll speak to a doctor though.

It was 2 years ago and yes partners were allowed during it and also allowed to stay on the post natal ward.

You'd need to check the current policies of each hospital. Partners are only allowed in for the c section part and about an hour in post recovery. There are no partners allowed on wards at the moment and no visiting hours in most hospitals

I totally understand why this has to be the case but it is awful. Post natal wards are awful so I hope they're staffed appropriately if women are being left on their own.

Oh I should say, I was in Kings in august and was allowed visitors. This was a non maternity ward though.

I strongly recommend you look at which is accessible from where you live and how busy they are - just because your are scheduling a c-section doesn't mean you won't go into labour first. I would also suggest checking current visiting arrangements, for most hospitals there's none so could you avoid a c-section, thus be discharged quicker? - I left after 4 hours of org one of my DD's, in a pandemic preferable.

Maternity services don't vary that much, convenience from your house, car parking, etc are often the deciding factors and remember most people don't get a choice because their city only has one hospital (and maybe a birth unit nearby if you're lucky)

@kirinm

I'm having twins and been told we will get an hour with DH after the c section and that's it until I come home which could be a few days so I'll be on my own with 2 babies and no support and no visitors. Most likely the babies will be going into NICU which also means restricted visiting for several weeks.

I hope you are okay. I think that sounds awful and there should be some way around leaving vulnerable women on their own.

I had my second planned section at Kings in September - partner there for admission, prep, birth, stayed for recovery, then had to leave when I went up to the ward. He was allowed to visit from 2pm-8 each day, so I only had 11:30-2 on my own that first day.
No other visitors allowed though.

It's an great hospital clinically, and importantly, I found my care to be delivered with kindness both times, even when they were busy.

Thanks everyone, that's very helpful
