Has anyone had this ? Due to back problems if I have any more babies I’d need a c section under GA.
I’m not sure if we will but I wanted to hear from others. Can it be as special ? Even though you miss the actual birth part ?
How was it after ? Does baby have to have formula till you wake up or do you wake up quite quickly?

I had one due to an emergency, I’m guessing most GA are emergencies. TBH I was just happy we both survived.

Feeding wise I had to express, but milk came in as quickly as it did with my vaginal births.

Your situation is very different though, so hopefully someone with more info will be along.

Sorry to hear about ur back problems, I'm an odp so work in theatres and used to do sections. So all the team would try and make it as special as they can for you, the main different with a ga than spinal is ur partner would not be able to be with you or be in theatre when baby is delivered, depending on hospital policy once baby is born happy and safe the midwife would be able to take baby to partner for maybe skin on skin if that what u wanted. You wake up fairly quickly and go to recovery where baby would be waiting for u, where if u felt up 2 it would be able to bf. you will be tired after the ga but who's not tired after giving birth. And if worried about bf straight away you could always try and hand express a week before section and a have wee bit of milk ready to go x

I had a C-section under GA 2 weeks ago and overall it was completly fine. I was in booked in for an elective c but my platelets dropped rapidly that morning so they couldn't do a spinal and changed to a GA in the afternoon. I didn't have a birth plan beyond getting her out as safely as possible so I was okay with not being awake for the actual birth. Meeting her for the first time as she was in my husband's arms was quite special even if we didn't get to meet her together.

The team were really lovely and, once I was asleep, they had my daughter out of theatre and in the arms of my husband within 15 mins. I was in theatre for over an hour then in recovery for a few hours afterwards. The best thing was my husband could stay with us for all the time I was in recovery so he got about 5 hours with us instead of having to go after 1 hour.

I was quite groggy for a few hours afterwards and I don't remember the first midwife helping me get the baby to latch, but I did breastfeed quite soon after waking up even if I don't remember! I do remember everything from about 2 hours after surgery, but I was bone tired for about 3 days and falling asleep a lot. The midwifes in hospital were great at lifting her from her cot and putting her back for me until I was up on my feet.
