Stretch and sweep... waters??

Hi all,

I had a sweep at 12 today, they said cervix was uneffaced and closed still so very unlikely anything is going to happen from the sweep (currently 40+2 FTM).

I've since had lots of dampness in my knickers where it's soaked through, no smell and completely clear. Could this be waters or am I just wishfully thinking it might be and it's actually just very very watery discharge??

Thank you for any experiences you can share x

Call the midwives/mau for advice.

I had an unsuccessful sweep with a cervix that was nowhere near ready. My waters went that evening but labour didn't start. Both myself and baby ended up with very bad infections and in scbu/hdu.

I had a sweep about a month ago and my waters were leaking 45 minutes later so entirely possible, have you put on a pad on? I did that and then called triage who asked me to go in and confirmed it was waters.

Good luck and fingers crossed it's time!

I had a sweep and waters broke during it. Definitely get checked as there’s a risk of infection once your waters go.

Amniotic fluid should have a smell (some people describe it as sweet, almondy, popcorn, sometimes like diluted bleach). It could alternatively be a big load of discharge and (some of) your mucous plug as that's common after a sweep as it can get dislodged - is it just complete dampness or is there any gloopy jelly-like stuff in there?

I'd second putting a pad on and keeping an eye on the look and smell of it.

Good luck!

Thank you all for your advice!

@CooperLooper So far just liquid, no jelly stuff!

I rang the MW and they also said put a pad in and call them back in half an hour if any more comes out so I will wait and see and hope for the best 😊

Exciting! Good luck @Amyyy1 Smile

It’s probably where the midwife used gel to do the examination so you’re damp from that
