Induction or no induction!

Hi there. I'm now 36 weeks pregnant at 43 years old. I've been told there's a small risk of still birth if I go over 40 weeks, so they recommend an induction at 40 weeks, although it's ultimately my decision. I've got it booked it and felt it was the best decision, but now reading into it more I'm thinking that maybe it would better to not have an induction, due to stress on the baby and possibly use of forceps etc. Thoughts please.....? Has anyone been in the same position?

I was induced for two births and they were more painful and longer than without for my middle child. However there wasn’t much in it tbh each birth is different. Good luck OP.

I had an induction at 39 weeks and they had to use forceps on me to get my baby out as he was getting really tired and stressed so they rushed me to theatre to use forceps. Honestly the whole thing put me off ever having another baby again.

I am in the same situation - 41 years old and 37 weeks pregnant. Just had a meeting with my consultant who agreed to give me a growth scan just before due date, and if all is looking well they will let me have a few more days then induce at 40+5 if baby hasn’t made his/her own way out. I’m really hoping that they do, as want to avoid induction but also due to my history of miscarriage I’m quite anxious - this seemed like a good compromise. Important to say that induction for me is based on age only, I have no other health concerns and have had growth scans to check size and placenta. Good luck!

That's good they've allowed you an extra growth scan. My last growth scan was a week ago where they discovered I have a bit too much amniotic fluid (it's slightly off the chart), so they're glad I'm booked in for the induction! I'm just going to have to go with it, but hoping he comes a bit earlier - fingers crossedSmile. I too gave a history of miscarriage, so I know how you feel - I'm very anxious about it. Plus Covid doesn't help. Congratulations by the way :-)
