I'm 35 weeks wanting to emails PALs As I want a planned c section and have been asking for one for weeks and weeks and have not been taken seriously and still have had no appointments to discuss it with anyone my midwife said that she would make a referral.. this was 4 weeks ago I got tired of waiting so I brought it up at the hospital the other day and basically got laughed at and told I don't have the right to one after I said that I do. The receptionist said they'd try get me an appointment but "don't know when it will be" with a smirk on her face she was the one who was laughing with the ob. I'm 35 weeks now this is ridiculous I want this sorting out I do not want to give birth and am scared of going into labour because there are just taking the absolute piss. I want to write PALs and email but I am not good with wording things someone please help

That's awful treatment, I would also contact PALS.

Have you read this?: www.nice.org.uk/guidance/cg132/chapter/Introduction

It's the guidance for maternal request CSs.

Whereabouts in the country are you (roughly)? From the forums here I've read that some London hospitals refuse to adhere to this guidance, so wonder if that's relevant to you?

Have you seen a consultant at all during this pregnancy? If so, do you have contact details for them? You're rather short on time so I'd go for PALS and the consultant (if you have details) tomorrow. You could go for something like:

"Dear X,

I first contacted my midwife about a maternal request CS on X date. Since then I've raised the request again on Y and Z date, at which point I was told a referral had been made to the consultant.

In the four weeks since I've not even had the referral acknowledged and when I tried to chase it up with the X department receptionist was told I don't have a right to a CS, despite the NICE guidance clearly stating otherwise.

I'm 35 weeks pregnant and need this dealing with as it is causing me a lot of stress.

Please could you help me to find out what has happened to my referral and let me know what the next steps are to improving the poor advice and support I've received so far?"

You might also want to contact Birthrights ( www.birthrights.org.uk ) who should be able to help.

Good luck Flowers

@DuggeeHugs what should I put as the subject for the email x

I'd probably go with 'help needed, c-section referral' or similar. Remembering how desperate I was to get my ELCS confirmed, I would probably send the email asap then call them tomorrow afternoon. You could add a line at the end to say 'please could you call me on [my number] as soon as possible as I'm extremely worried'.

Definitely call Birthrights as well, though. They should be able to advise you better.

imjustbxx · 30/10/2020 02:52

@DuggeeHugs yeah I did put my number at the end and asked them to email me back ASAP I'm seeing my useless midwife tomorrow so I'll bring it up again Then

Take a copy of the guidance - it includes a flowchart of what she should be doing.

It's horrendous that so many women still have to fight for this.

Good luck Smile

What's your reasonings for wanting a csection? Is it just the fear of naturally giving birth?
Some hospitals will refuse on these grounds but they have to refer you to a surgeon who will be willing to perform one but it won't necessarily be at your local hospital and won't be until you are 40+weeks (so I've been told)
I'm trying to get one too because of my baby's position as she's transverse and they aren't taking me seriously either, even though they've told me it's dangerous for me to go into labour incase of a cord prolapse (I'm 36+weeks) and how if my waters break I've got to get on al fours and phone an ambulance immediately, they just keep saying there is time. It's so frustrating and is ruining the last few weeks of pregnancy for me, I'm sure it is you too 🙁

Hatepickinganame · 03/11/2020 13:51

@LRHRN I can't believe they aren't taking that seriously, my baby was transverse at 32 weeks and they tried to admit me to hospital there and then (i do also have polyhydramnios which makes the waters going an even higher risk) but my midwife thinks ill be admitted at 37 weeks latest, and if she's not moved its going to be a section. Are they going to rescan you?

LRHRN · 03/11/2020 17:19

@Hatepickinganame I've got a scan next Wednesday and ECV clinic and will discuss options then. I don't think I want her turned it just seems too stressful with high risks that I'm not prepared to take. I just hope they mention csection next week if not I will request one. I'm getting closer and don't want to leave it to chance.
When are you due? My hospital don't admit for transverse babies but I have heard from the midwife that a lot do.

Hatepickinganame · 03/11/2020 18:33

I'm due in 5 weeks. Saw Dr again today, baby is now breech instead of transverse so she's definitely spinning around in there. Consultant seemed much happier with a breech baby than when she was transverse but said they will wait till the next scan to see what's she's doing then as I'll be 36+4 and she'll be much less likely to turn again after that. Fluid levels are still high but only mild polyhydramnios so all in all much more positive today. Ill be declining an ecv too if its offered.

LRHRN · 03/11/2020 19:01

@Hatepickinganame aww that's really good news, hopefully they both turn for us 🤞🏼my munchkin has a week to get into a better position, the way she's kicking me tonight she's definitely not head down yet 😫

Hatepickinganame · 12/11/2020 16:41

@LRHRN how did your scan go yesterday?

LRHRN · 12/11/2020 17:30

@Hatepickinganame thank you for asking.
The little madam is now head down and almost fully engaged ready to go. I've been contracting for a few days and had other early labour symptoms so it's just a waiting game now.
Are you ok? Xx

Hatepickinganame · 12/11/2020 18:12

@LRHRN ah thats amazing news that she's in the right position now! Fingers crossed labour progresses for you soon! I'm 36 weeks tomorrow, have my next scan on Tuesday to see whats going on. I think my little monkey is still spinning around though, kicks seem to change position all the time. I'm back to a very round hard lump under my right ribs, so thinking she's breech or transverse at the moment. Refusing to worry until Tuesday! Although I have spent the day wrapping all the kids presents in case they do admit me after my appointment 🙃

LRHRN · 13/11/2020 06:27

@Hatepickinganame you never know she might be in the right position cause I was convinced mine wasn't head down. Even now her body changes sides. Normally kicks are on the right near my back but they've been on my left too still haven't had any movement at the top of my bump at all.
I'm 38 weeks tomorrow so I'm trying all the old wives tales 😂
