Look up the safe sleep guidance. It’s 6 months for a reason. All your baby’s sleep and naps should be in the same room as you’re in.

maureenfrombarnsley · 28/10/2020 22:42

Hi, congrats on the new baby.

The guidance is 6 months but we moved our first into their room at about 4 months and the second at about 5 months. Both children slept much better in their own rooms, but I do think 2 months old is a little too young to be apart from you all night, and would wait longer if you can.

Have you tried white noise? Babies like it, and it might help obscure the sound of the nightly get-ups for the sleeping partner.

The guide says 6 months but we had the issues with DP keeping baby up. 13 weeks he went in his own room. I had a monitor pad under him for breathing/moving. It’s not recommended though at all but we all slept better. I did wait until he had dropped his 2am feed which lucky he did at 11 weeks so then would sleep 9pm till 5am if DP didn’t snore like a champ! X

6 months minimum.

I cannot believe pp's ignore guidance, put their baby's at higher risk of SIDS just for sleep.

LaBellina · 29/10/2020 05:30

At 8 months.

6 Months is the minimum because of SIDS.

mrsmummy1111 · 29/10/2020 05:51

14 weeks here as DS was on a routine of feeding 7pm, 11pm and 7am by that point, and it meant DH & I couldn't enjoy our evenings without fear of waking him. He also slept 100x better without being able to smell my milk. We had an angel care mat in his cot and obviously a monitor but we all slept a hell of a lot better once he moved. Pregnant with DC2 and plan to do the same thing this time

Twizbe · 29/10/2020 05:53

We followed the guidance and moved our son at 6 months.

We moved our daughter at 4 months for various reasons. Our SIDS risk was super low already (non smokers, non drinkers and I was exclusively breastfeeding)

triceratops12 · 29/10/2020 06:12

Moved into his own room at one year old but now at 2.5 he only spends a couple of hours in his own bed Confused

Islagray11 · 29/10/2020 06:15

We moved our first Daughter at 5 months because she started waking every hour.

I would hold off a little bit. It is hard and knackering listening to them move about all night 😩

SpeckledyHen · 29/10/2020 06:17

3 years . Co sleepers.

sarahc336 · 29/10/2020 07:33

Abit early at around 5 months as we started disturbing her when we came up to bed ourselves xx

SnuggyBuggy · 29/10/2020 07:36

It may be 6 months but I'm the only person I know who did this. Most people at least start leaving them in the cot alone for a few hours in the evening so who knows. Me personally I kept mine in with me until they started sleeping through as I couldn't be bothered to get out of bed.

NameChange30 · 29/10/2020 07:39

The SIDS risks is highest at 1-4 months so you should until baby is at least 4 months old.

If baby's noises are disturbing you, you could wear ear plugs (the soft silicone ones are good) - you'll still hear the loud cries but it will muffle out the quieter noises.

Mol1628 · 29/10/2020 07:40

9/10 months

NameChange30 · 29/10/2020 07:40

you should keep baby in your room, i meant
Not sure how I managed to miss out half the sentence!

FelicityPike · 29/10/2020 07:43

9 months because she was premature.
Guidelines are 6 months. Please research this because 8 weeks is far too early.

Russell19 · 29/10/2020 07:43

He was about 5.5 months. Slept so much better for it. But I do think 2 months is way too young.

Findahouse21 · 29/10/2020 07:43

4.5 months as the SIDS risk starts to drop considerably after 4 months. An exhausted parent isn't without risk either and as others there are no other risk factors in our household.

needanewidea · 29/10/2020 07:44

At around 18 months.

The SIDS guidance is your baby needs to be in the same room as you. This is because being in the same place, where they can hear your breathing, helps them regulate their own breathing - even when asleep, which is amazing IMO.

A lot of people seem to think it's about you being able to hear your baby, but it's the other way round. Baby monitors are no substitute, your baby needs to be near you. We have evolved to sleep together, not in different rooms.

I would focus on finding ways to make it easier for you to sleep with the baby, not move him away from you.

Indoctro · 29/10/2020 07:50

Please don't do it before the recommendation of 6 months

Also if you do decide and something terrible did happen could you live with that.?

Best to stick to what health care professionals recommend

MindyStClaire · 29/10/2020 07:53

7 months for DC1, will move DC2 at 6 months. But we started putting both up by themselves for a couple of hours in the evening from around 3 months which is against the guidelines.

Honestly, at one month you have lots of sleep changes ahead and it'll get better and worse, better and worse. Aside from the SIDS risk, I wouldn't want to be traipsing to another room for every wake up during the four month sleep regression.

dementedpixie · 29/10/2020 07:53

6 months for one at 8 months for the other. SIDS guidance says to be in the same room for 6 months

welshweasel · 29/10/2020 07:55

Earplugs and white noise are your friend!! I couldn’t sleep at all until I’d figured that out. 5 years on and I still sleep with earplugs every night. We moved eldest around 8 months and youngest around 6.

BigusBumus · 29/10/2020 08:01

12 weeks for us with all 3 including naps in their own rooms and bed at 7pm.

WinterWoosh · 29/10/2020 08:33

My baby choked on reflux at 9 weeks and I don't know what would have happened if he wasn't in the same room.

6 months is the guideline, I had so many nights awake while he was asleep snorting like a piggy.

It drive me bonkers - but safety is key
