Foley Balloon

Tell me you stories of being induced with Foley Balloon.
How long did it take for you to dilate and it fall out?
How long after it fell out did you have your baby?

I've had mine inserted 2 hours ago and honestly I'm in so much pain, constant cramping and cannot get comfortable. Hoping that means that things will move quickly for me 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Following. I’ve agreed to a second induction after an awful pessary experience, sold to me on the grounds that the balloon is unlikely to cause any pain! I’ll not be impressed if this isn’t the case....

No experience I'm afraid, but good luck! Wishing you a straightforward delivery.

@FizzingWhizzbee123 the only pain I'm getting is contractions to be fair, the balloon itself it more just a bit uncomfortable, unless baby's head nudges it then I get a quick pain that only lasts a second.

@PebblesAndBamBam thank you Grin

I had the cooks balloon (is that the same thing??) put in when the pessary didn't work for me!

It was put in about 11am, had a heavy pressure sort of feeling for a few hours. Then around 3pm I started getting really mild contractions of various lengths for around an hour but it then stopped and I fell asleep. The midwife told me that was normal, and the balloon method was more a mechanical way to get you dilated to 2cm rather than hormonal method, then your waters can be broken.

They took it out at 5am when there was space in the labour ward, and broke my waters to go on the drip. Baby was born at 7pm. I dont think they can keep them in longer than 24 hours ...

Good luck ! Smile

I was induced using one yesterday! Mine fell out after 11.5 hours! Some horrible cramps overnight, but nothing I couldn't manage. Unfortunately my labour didn't progress as hoped and it ended in an emergency csection earlier today. But not due to an issue with the balloon 😊

Contractions are exactly what I want to avoid though! I had 12 agonising hours of contractions on the pessary before I got anywhere. I’ve been told that the balloon with thin and open the cervix pretty much painlessly until my waters can be broken. It’s the only reason I’ve agreed to it! Some light cramping I can deal with, but if it triggers proper contractions then I am not doing it.

How are you getting on today?

27andcounting · 26/10/2020 12:34

Doing better today, didn't think the balloon had come out, but upon a check this morning it turns out it had come out. My 'contractions' actually teetered off in the end.
Just waiting for examination and break my waters once there's a bed.

Exciting! Fingers crossed breaking waters kicks everything off for you and you have a quick and smooth delivery. Let us know!

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 26/10/2020 12:52

How many cm did the balloon get you to?

27andcounting · 26/10/2020 13:33

@FizzingWhizzbee123 waters just been broken..... soaking Shock
Hoping it's goes quickly from here but who knows.
It got me to 2/3cm she said 2cm but could stretch to 3 with ease

I had one with my daughter. Unfortunately I started bleeding 3 hours after it being inserted so it had to be removed and I had to have my waters broke when I was 1cm dilated. I then had contractions for hours and only got to 3cm... Ended up in an emergency c section 😩
Fingers crossed it goes better for you!!

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 27/10/2020 10:48

@27andcounting Hoping baby has arrived safely by now 🤞🏻

27andcounting · 30/10/2020 10:33

@FizzingWhizzbee123
So baby came along on Tuesday, after 14 hours with no progression in my dilation I ended up having a C-Section. But was well worth it once I had my little girl in my arms and got to come home next day so been great on recovery.

@27andcounting Thanks for updating. Congratulations on your baby girl! I’m sorry it was all a bit protracted but she’s here safely and that’s the main thing. Glad you’re recovering well.
