For those who had a quick first labour..how quick was your second!?

I currently have a 9 month old and am 4 weeks pregnant (oops!)...I’ve started wondering about the birth already as it really doesn’t feel like long ago since the last one!

I had a good first birth in terms of no complications or tears but it was 6 hours from start to finish..no time for pain relief by the time I was at the hospital and I went from 3cm to 10cm in an hour when I got there which was very intense. I get the impression the midwife thought I was being a drama queen until I begged her to examine me again!

I hear second births are quicker :0 quite worried i won’t even make it to the hospital! I’d love to hear stories of ladies who had quick first births..did you even get a warning with your second?!

My first was 6 hours from them breaking my waters (I was induced) to delivery. My second was 2 hours from me asking the midwife for a paracetamol (I was due to be induced the next day and started feeling mild twinges) to delivery. If I hadn’t already been at the hospital I’m not sure I would have made it for no 2.

My first was 6 hours and my second was 1 hour 42 minutes. So a lot quicker. Not always a good thing when it goes so quickly, its very intense, and also I got a prolapse and piles from it which I have put down to the speed and my body not quite being ready.

WillowySnicket · 24/10/2020 09:50

First was 6 hours, second 4 and last 1.5.

InTheLongGrass · 24/10/2020 09:58

DS1 was the shorter side of normal.
DS2 was 2 hrs start to finish, and an unplanned paramedic delivery at home - about 30 seconds off a birth with no medical supervision.
If you think there is a chance of your second labour being very fast, I'd recommend considering a homebirth - and if nothing else, have a pile of "oh shit the babys coming now" stuff easy to grab - towels, those bed protectors were brought by the paramedics and were great, and other easy to get bits that are recommended for a home birth. Get the midwife number in your phone!!

My first was quick, around 6 hrs.
Second one was 1.5 hrs.

GoogleWhacked · 24/10/2020 10:12

First was 6 hours start to finish, in hospital 2 hours before he was born. Second was 4 hours from first twinge, in hospital 15 minutes before he was born.

Oo following with interest as my first was also 6 hours. I was in hospital for all of it though as contractions were immediately quite intense (plus waters had meconium) so I went straight in.

I'd do the same next time, go straight in as soon as contractions are established and hope that gives enough time.

MummyItsallaboutyou · 25/10/2020 05:40

First was around 6 hours, second was 1.5 hours from the very first sign of labour to baby coming.

BikeRunSki · 25/10/2020 05:43

My first labour started with water breaking, immediate onset of contractions, 0-10 cm in 6 hours and emcs.
My second labour was exactly the same, but half an hour quicker.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 25/10/2020 05:51

Fuck I’m scared/ my first was 5hrs I’m active labour but there were signs leaving up like a show the day before and 5hrs of cramps at the beginning. I’m scared because I need to get my child to family and also the whole husband can only come up from 4cms

First was 6 hours from waters breaking to baby....second was 2 1/2 from first little twinge to baby.
Planned home birth because of this!

Twickerhun · 25/10/2020 06:09

First was 3 hours (1 h 45 of pushing). Second was 6 hours of labour then 8 mins of pushing. I didn’t get pain relief either. My second was probably slower as my blood pressure was more monitored and managed

Dreamylemon · 25/10/2020 06:12

1st 4 hours from first contraction. Waters broke few hours before this though. It's was a bit fast and furious!

2nd again around 4 hours but was much slower building and less intense with waters breaking only 5 mins before she was born. I had a sweep that afternoon. A calmer experience.

mostlydrinkstea · 25/10/2020 06:20

First was 27 hours. Second was 1 1/2 hours and my son was friended rather than born.

For my third we had everything planned for a home delivery, if needed, including stocks of tea and biscuits for the paramedics. We shot off to hospital at the first twinge where I walked around the delivery room for a very boring 3 1/2 hours.

Fielded. Wretched autocarrot

60sPony · 25/10/2020 06:30

Following with interest as my son was born very quickly and I’m due number 2 next week so let’s see how it goes

Twizbe · 25/10/2020 06:33

First was 6 hours from first contraction to baby.

Second was 3 hours from first confection to baby.

yellowstoneranch · 25/10/2020 06:33

Hours with 1st, only 20 mins of pushing.
Second was 1 hr 15 and been advised home birth if I have another

yellowstoneranch · 25/10/2020 06:33

4 hours that should say

pumpkinpie01 · 25/10/2020 06:36

My first was 7 hours , second was 16 hours . I was told to get to the hospital straight away when I went into labour 2nd time round got there and they wouldn't give me a room and tried to send me home, basically made me feel like crap. So 3rd time I thought I would stay at home as long as possible but took it to the other extreme and got there with 10 mins to spare , she literally examined me and told me to push .

Wowcherarestalkingme · 25/10/2020 06:36

First was 3 hours. Second was 45 minutes. Luckily we live very close to the hospital

BorisandHarriet · 25/10/2020 06:42

First was four hours from first contraction and second was the same.

gingertom11 · 25/10/2020 06:48

First was about 6 hours - pushing stage about an hour. Second baby is a week old and I'd say early labour was longer - was having mild contractions all day but once they ramped up - they tamped up! Went from 5-10cm in about an hour once arrived at hospital and then I literally didn't push, and she was born about 2 minutes after starting to feel the ' 'downward pressure' contractions as opposed to the period pain type contractions. The midwife commented 'ooh this baby doesn't want to wait' and seconds later she was plonked on my chest!

DiscustinHunAmFummin · 25/10/2020 06:50

My first was quick and my second was so fast he was born at home in the middle of the night. I was lucky a paramedic arrived a few minutes before as the birth centre had just told me to take a paracetamol and ring back in an hour!

grafittiartist · 25/10/2020 06:55

First 4 hours, second 2.
