I am due to be induced this weekend, I will be 38 weeks.
All I have heard is horror stories of how long it will take.
FTM & would love to hear peoples positive induction stories to help me stay focused🤞🏼

The best thing was having that date set in stone.
I was induced at 39 weeks. Baby wasn’t ready to come out, so took about 24 hours till I was in labour.
I was able to start on the paracetamol during that time- it truly helps the soreness after, if it’s built up in your system.
Then it was quick. So quick.
So much quicker than my first labour. That was great.

Take your own paracetamol and ibuprofen for after the delivery.

And good luck

I was induced with my 2nd.
Pessary in at midnight. 3cm by 6am. They broke my waters and DS was born at 7.57am. I had pethidine and gas and air. Get plenty of sleep beforehand, its hard to sleep through the pessary pain! Good luck Flowers

I've got mine booked in for Sunday exactly 40weeks. Very nervous but also very excited. The advice I've been given is to really give into it, don't hold back because you can slow your own progress down apparently with the fears and worries. My sister has had 3 inductions and she said honestly there is nothing to be worried about just feel the contractions starts imagine it's your body doing it naturally and give into them so that's how I'm going to view it.

Two inductions - both drip. Honestly, first was not a good experience but I was disappointed from the get go at not being able to go mid wife led and water birth. It was long, I took diamorphine and epidural and needed intervention. But, as PP stated, just go with it as my second induction, during Covid with no partner at all, was very smooth with only gas and air and very relaxed. I took gas and air very liberally for all my examinations and that also really helped with my anxiety as I didn’t feel the discomfort and heighten my pain sensors etc too early on. You will be absolutely fine - recommend exploring hypnobirthing to develop some nice breathing techniques. Congratulations on baby!!

Had 3. All good. No other interventions, no stitches. Took every bit of pain relief going and would recommend that. First one took a while. Good luck!!!!

I've had 2 inductions, both times my water was broken and I was put on a drip. 1st baby was born in 6 hours. Had gas and air & pethadine. 2nd baby was born in an hour, just gas and air. No complications and we got home less than 10 hours later both times.

Good luck!!

I was induced with second and third baby. Both with a drip. DS1 took half an hour for contractions to start. We had a nice meal and a laugh with hubby whilst waiting. Just managed to finish pudding when contractions started. Yes it was painful but then childbirth always is. 50 minutes or maybe less and he almost fell out 😂😂 no complications whatever.

DS2 again induced with a drip after we realised my waters had been dripping for 48 hours (both were 39+3). He shout out again in under an hour. Staying upright on my knees on the bed with my upper body leaning against the back of the bed definitely hugely helped to speed things with gravity. Also would massively massively recommend hypno birthing. I'm totally sceptic about anything like that, hadn't done any courses or anything. I tried to force my tummy to relax with just thoughts and breathing and it was like a weird trance where the pain halved. I wish I could give birth again with what I know now about how much even forcing yourself to relax instead of tensing up with pain reduces the pain

Good luck. People love sharing horror stories but the horror stories are actually not that common. Plus at the end of it you'll be holding your gorgeous baby.

Thank you all.. lovely to read some positive stories. I have been doing hypnobirthing so trying to stay focused on the tools I have learnt from the PBC course to help me through plus your stories.
Will let you all know how we get on 👶🏻

I was induced with my first baby in April. I requested outpatient induction so I could spend as much time at home as possible, not be stuck waiting around alone in hospital. It was pretty quick (13 hours from pessary going in to baby coming out!) and straightforward, very intense & painful at times but I managed with gas & air and the birthing pool. Good luck x

Sakura92 · 24/10/2020 07:20

I was induced with my first baby a few days ago and it was very straightforward :) I was dreading it taking forever too but I was surprised how quick it ended up being! I had a pessary in at 8pm, contractions started at 2am, at 6am I was transferred to the labour room and baby was here at 8.30 am 😊

SelkieQualia · 24/10/2020 07:28

I've had two. IV up at 9am, baby by 4pm both times. Great experiences. Hoping I can do the same for my third.

Nancydowns · 24/10/2020 07:36

I had the pessery at 9am, contractions started gradually. By 6pm I was starting to struggle with the pain and given pethadine. By 9pm I was screaming for an epidural and taken to the labour ward. Given gas and air which was actually enough to manage. Gave birth unassisted (never got the epidural) at 10pm.

So 13 hours. It was I assume simular to a spontaneous labour. It would have been nicer to be at home for the first 9 hours though. I refused the monitors as well, too restrictive.
