Quick labour

Has anyone been told after a sweep that their cervix was soft so not to leave it too long once contractions start to go to the hospital and had a quick labour soon after?
I've had my second sweep today at 39+2 and was told not to wait too long if contractions start. Just wondered what the likelihood of labour soon starting soon is and it being a quick one! My first labour was pretty quick and they second can be quicker anyway!!

I had a sweep on a Saturday, waters broke on the Sunday, I had my DS on the Tuesday evening after being induced on the Monday.
So in my experience labour doesn't always start quickly after a sweep. It was flipping long! 🤪
However I wish you all the best! 💐💐😢

I had a soft cervix and my labour was 12 hours. I had assumed it would be short because it was my third but it wasn’t. I would say try not to get an expectation in your head as I really struggled through my labour as I’d heard all these 3/4 hour labour stories and had convinced myself that mine would be similar

I was holding 1st baby about six hours after a sweep - labour was about 3 hours and I was 9cm when I arrived. The second time I left for the hospital at the first twinge! Good luck!!

Thanks everyone - there really is no given when it comes to birth is there 🙈 what will be will be and hopefully it won't be a too long labour when it happens 🤞

Didn't have sweeps, but I would say if you had a quick first labour and have been told this - then I'd listen!
My first was quick (2hrs) do I planned a homebirth for my 2nd - which in the event was 15 mins.

Good luck.

1st 1h 40m from 1st contraction.
2nd 38m from 1st contraction-planned home birth because of quick 1st time round.
3rd (induction) was told very unfavourable cervix, but arrived within 2 1/2 hours of being given pessary and 40m after labour started.

Best of luck with everything this time round. And agree, ring midwives ASAP once things get started.

Soft cervix and labour was 5hrs and 17 minutes from the first contraction to DD being born

OneIsAWorldOfBooks · 18/10/2020 13:08

I had a failed sweep because my cervix was too high and closed at 40+5, was booked in for an induction the following week because midwife didn’t think I was anywhere close to going into labour. Had a slightly twingy back about 6pm at 40+6, ordered a takeaway and back pains got a bit worse while eating that about 7.30pm. Had a bath and decided around 8.45 I was definitely in labour and contractions were 6 minutes apart and lasting for 45 seconds. By 9pm contractions were every 3 minutes. Finally managed to get in touch with the midwife about 9.45 who didn’t think I was in active labour but agreed to come out and examine me (planned homebirth). Lucky she did because my waters broke at 22.54, midwife arrived at 22.55 and DD was born at 22:59. I was completely in shock, as was the midwife and DP who had started filling up the birth pool at 22.54 as I screamed at him that the baby was being born RIGHT NOW and to stop fucking around with the pool and phone the midwife/an ambulance/absolutely anyone that knows how to deliver a baby.

My first labour was 44 hours from first contractions and 4cm dilated so completely different.

HarrietM87 · 19/10/2020 07:49

With my first baby I was 12 days overdue. Multiple sweep attempts failed as cervix was hard and closed and posterior so they couldn’t reach it. On the day of my induction my bishops score was 0. Anyway I had the prostin gel, contractions started a few hours later and baby born within 3 hours of first contraction.

I’m facing another induction this time, but in the week of my due date, and hoping it works as quickly again!
