Hello, I'm having an ELCS in about a month with GD. Has anyone else had one? What will happen after birth, will they take him away straight away?

I had a section as baby just wasn't coming. To be honest it was easy but pretty brutal at the same time. It is major surgery after all. You don't feel a thing but the recovery is the thing you need to consider. The first few days are horrendous, as you cannot stand up straight, you can barely walk and getting in and out of bed is gruelling. My DH had to help me and you will be relying on your partner a lot to care for baby for at least the first few days, as you really can't do much at all.
If baby is well they will show him/her to you after taking them out of your belly and they will just appear over the screen so you can see them and then they clean them up and weigh them before giving them to either you or your partner.
Unless there is something wrong with baby they won't take him away.

Thank you, I had an EMCS previously so I'm not worried about the section part but with the GD I don't know what happens after, and that's the bit I'm worried about. My previous section was due to an infection, I only got to hold him a second before he was whisked away. I'm wondering if that's what happens again this time Sad

Oh bless you! I doubt they will unless you have the same problem again. I don't think GD will have anything to do with it, as it's your body that has it and not babies.
I'm sure everything will be ok 🥰🥰🥰

I've had one section with GD and one without. The only difference was that they needed to do a blood prick test on baby every six hours or so for the first 24 hours. I still got to hold her straight away.

I'm having a section, primarily for placenta praevia, but have also developed GD while in hospital on bed rest. I was told that baby might have low blood sugar initially, so they will just monitor and potentially give sugar / formula to top up if needed. He'll get the all clear once they have at least two normal readings.

Mine will be prem, so might go down to nicu, but if all is otherwise well they'll do the blood sugar monitoring on the postnatal ward.
