Large Abdominal Circumference

Duplicate of post in pregnancy forum.

Found out at my last growth scan that baby is in 90th centile for abdominal circumference which hasn't been and issues until now (was done at 37+5wks. I've turn 38 today and got a telephone appointment with gen obs to discuss birth this week. Can anyone tell me what they might suggest? I've read a lot to say it could be c-section as babies are more likely to get stuck?

I've not got GD, and to be honest I don't care as long as it's whatever is best for baby and me at this point, just overthinking it as they gave me no indication of how worried I should be if at all and hate waiting to find out more.

I wouldn’t worry. My babe was measuring around that if not slightly larger at 36 weeks. He came at 39+1. I did have to have a c section but it wasn’t due to his size (more due to me). They let me go into labour when babe was ready, I was given the option of being induced at 38 weeks and I said no. They did say they wouldn’t of let me go over 40 weeks though. He was 8lb when born so not as big as they were expecting. Prepare yourself for a c section just in case. I personally didn’t find it too bad and I have the opportunity to have one if I had another baby and I would go for it again. Good luck with your birth and congratulations on baby xx

I had a growth scan at 36 weeks and baby had a large abdominal circumference. Head circumference and overall estimated weight were fine. They did test me again for gestational diabetes and I didn't have it. The midwives weren't concerned, I did a bit of research and couldn't find any cause for concern either. I read somewhere that it's a sign baby is getting plenty of nutrients, because if they have enough for the brain and organs to grow, the rest goes to the tummy as reserves Grin

Baby was born at 40+1 weighing 4.1kg (9lb1), spontaneous labour and normal vaginal delivery with no complications. No shoulder dystocia (I did have it with DC1 but I think that's because of my position, I'd been forced to labour on my back... luckily it wasn't severe and his shoulder was released quickly and easily).
