Hello
I spilt some lavender oil (about half a bottle!) on myself last night while trying to put a couple of drops in the bath...doh! Now getting mild crampy pains fairly frequently but not really regular as yet. Have I started something??? Please tell me its just wishful thinking...
37+5 btw

I have an opinion but I really don't know if its worth anything lol!

I wouldn't normally go near lavender but I used lavender bath bubbles the night before my waters broke and I had DD2 (at 37 weeks). I did wonder if it had anything to do with it but I guess we'll never know! I started having very strong bh's the next morning...

Either way, hope all goes well

I don't think its one to avoid in pregnancy and have never heard of it causing labour to start. It may just be a coincidence.

I was told not to use lavender in pregnancy, athough don't know why - maybe, given then other post it brings you on

found a piece on the net which just said not in the first trimester, also found lots that said it was fine!

thanks guys. wishful thinking I guess. still getting lots of pain but nothing regular. Ahh well, will just have to struggle on

Interesting, I've been using lavender oil on everything since the beginning of this pregnancy (now 35 weeks). Nothing has happened. It can have a strong scent though.

Hi there,
I read this thread and thought I'd put in my 2 pence worth so apologies for barging in.

I'mnot an aromatherapist but I am interested in essential oils.

To my understanding any EO should be avoided in the first trimester but Clary sage in particular should be avoided until the end of pregnancy as it can induce labour.

That said, my daughter sniffed it endlessly and was addicted to the smell in the last 2 weeks of her pregnancy but her baby just didn't want to budge.

Still, everyone is different so it might work for someone else who is well past their due date.

HTH,

Kath
