Being induced tomorrow at 41 weeks care to share your induction story

Hi I'm being induced tomorrow at 41 weeks due to GD it's my fourth baby and have never been induced. Hospital let me get to this date with medical management to see if she came in her own but hasn't which is upsetting as all my others were born in the 40th week and she's just hanging on in there.
They have told me she is on the bigger side I'm very petite so I am worried about birthing a larger baby possibly 9lb but I know scans can be out.
Feeling nervous but also think she needs to be born now to avoid anything bad happening.

Can anyone advise me on how things went for you and can I refuse the dreaded drip ? Would prefer to hear off ladies who have had a baby already and then been induced as I know from experience first babies are longer to birth and the most difficult in general anyway.

All day I've held the tears in because I'm scared childbirth hurts anyway but I've heard it is worse.

Thanks in advance

I was induced with my second at 42 weeks and had the drip after they broke my waters but four hours later things still weren't moving. From drip starting to baby arriving was about 2.5 hours. It was absolutely fine. I didn't find it any more painful than my first labour which was spontaneous..

You've done this before. Induction doesn't necessarily equal more pain. It might be more intense I suppose..... but Find your zone and you'll be fine.

If you're getting the drip, insist they do the epidural right from the start.

maria860 · 25/09/2020 17:05

Thankyou and were you allowed to move around ? I hate being on the bed my last son was HB so I've gone from minimal intervention to a lot of intervention this time I suppose.
I have thought I will ask for epi if I am given the drip as I've heard it's brutal contractions I have had spontaneous births which I found bearable so hate the thought of losing control with the pain .

I could move around. I didn't stray far, but remember pacing around and ended up giving birth on my hands and knees on the floor! I managed the contractions with a tens machine, which really worked for me.

Induced twice -
Wish with my first I had specifically asked to speak to the doctor as
I had an ice maiden of a midwife. Sort of
Felt I couldn't at the time but really regret it as she wasn't listening to me. So that is my advice, if you want to speak to a doctor, don't hesitate as it made it much more stressful that needed to be.

Tens machine would be my other thing as gas and air wasn't that useful for me.

And I had 2 epidurals that were bliss (in context here!) and meant I really Enjoyed the final stage of pushing.

I had pessary, didnt work. Then my waters were broken, didnt work! So I ended up on the drip but my lovely midwife recommended getting the epidural so I only had 20 mins without it, that was enough!

Two inductions at 38 weeks so took two days before baby arrived. We took travel scrabble, mags and books in (before smart phones!)
No epidural as was too late with first and decided against it with the second. Does get intense fast. Laboured better with second when I could move and sit in the rocking chair. And she was back to back but was so much better than being laid on my back.
Avoided one third time round and it was an easier labour but I knew more and did some nice hypno breathing.
Good luck op. 🥰

My first baby was not induced and I had a 3 day latent labour and about 14hrs active labour, born 40+3. My second baby was induced at 37+0 with the pessary. I was in labour about 5 hours after pessary went in and she was born within the hour!

Chocolate4me · 25/09/2020 21:09

Hi, similar situation to me, I'm having my 5th and this time they are inducing me on my due date due to GD... I'm worried about it being more intense but I tell myself I can get an epidural. All 4 previous births started themselves off naturally and I had gas and air so this is all a bit different. A friend recommended asking them to break my waters to try to get it going as apparently this can be done if you are 2cm, which I am. Good luck to you! Just remember there are pain relief options

SillyYak · 25/09/2020 21:18

My first labour (7 years ago) was spontaneous, uncomplicated and fast (4 hrs active).

Second labour (3 months ago) I was induced at 40 plus ten due to my age. I went into labour 23 hours after first pessary so didn’t need waters breaking or drip. TENS machine helped in the early stages. Very quick active stage —just over one hour. All in all very positive birth experience. Good luck!

Thankyou guys for not giving me horror stories as that's all I read about inductions. It's hard when u know what's coming if you know what I mean where as when it just happens u just go with it as u have to.
I'm very nervous and worried about it all I'm just hoping it doesn't end up with more interventions.

Chocolate I've heard they may do ARM I would only be happy with that if I was a few CMs as if nothing happens you have to go on the drip. I'm mentally trying to prepare myself I'm a complete wuss not even with pain so much but being messed with and VE and being checked all the time I find that the hardest part.

I was induced at 41 weeks. Broke waters, had the drip, pushed DD out in 3 hours with just gas and air. Intense but manageable.

maria860 · 26/09/2020 07:19

Just thought I wound update I'm in labour now myself she's coming on her own so pleased.
