Had DS2 2 weeks ago, but I think I have had a reaction to my pads, and as a result am quite sore. Have tried different pads, but its getting worse, I think it might be thrush, but am still bleeding so don't know if I can use Canasten. Any ideas?

Could be AFI. i read about it today. its an allergy to sanitary products like pads.

see if you can get some eco ones. no washable ones if you dont fancy it, just enviromentally friendly ones.

shall i google?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/10/2007 22:59

AFI

sparklygothkat · 08/10/2007 23:00

I do have reactions to some pads. But I think wearing them for a few weeks has triggered something, its so uncomfortable.

the recommend these pads

persoanly once your periods return, if you uffer this again, and its not thrush, i would look into getting a mooncup.

Tallis · 08/10/2007 23:02

I've got this too. Due to have baby on Wed by EC and it's all just so sore and inflamed. GP initially thought it was thrush but (sorry, TMI) swabs suggested otherwise. All a bit baffling. Have stopped using liners, had salt baths with tea tree oil but nothing seems to work. V depressing. would love any insights into how best to deal with it!

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/10/2007 23:02

SGK, i cant wear pads as they make me sore. its really not nice

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/10/2007 23:03

tallis, loo into getting washable pads, allergy friendly products like in the second link or a mooncup.

i think i suffered from AFI, but since using a mooncup have had no symptoms at all. if i ever do have to use a normal pad because of getting caught unexpectingly, then i get sore with a couple of hours.

Tallis · 08/10/2007 23:05

Lordy, LVoC. How am I going to stem the bleeding post-birth without those industrial-sized liners? I'd best rush out and look for those eco-liners tomorrow. Bet you can only get them mail-order...and there's a postal strike!!

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/10/2007 23:06

tallis, they do maternity pads as well

UK
Retail Stores
Independent health stores, selected Sainsburys, Waitrose, Boots.
Fresh & Wild, Wild Oats, GNC.
Please ask your local store to stock Natracare

i havent used them so cant comment, i am afraid.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/10/2007 23:07

oh, i found the cheapest value pads were less irrating btw.

tesco value pads.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/10/2007 23:08

list of internet sites as well

HTH

when i read about it today, it just amde so much sense.

sparklygothkat · 08/10/2007 23:10

I did wonder if it was a reaction to the pads, my bleeding is slowing right down, and even tried to go without the pad earlier but then lost a largeish amount so had to put on another pad. I hate this..

Thank you so much Lady Victoria. I will do a mad dash around the supermarkets tomorrow and see if I can find some.

Sparkly, I feel for you - but at least you are home safely with your lovely babe.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 08/10/2007 23:20

glad to help

really must start an AFI thread.

sparklygothkat · 08/10/2007 23:25

Sparkly, I am on a blogging roll! This might sound wierd but when you wipe your lady bits (after loo or whatever) try some olive oil on the loo paper/ cotton wool, helps to provide a barrier to the blood/ thrush and is very soothing.

May I add my congrats to you and your family on the birth of Calum!
