Third degree tear!

Hi ladies,

I am 11 weeks post partum after my second baby and I suffered a 3B third degree tear. My labour was super quick!. This was my worst fear as I had an episiotomy with my first baby that got infected.
I ended up going to theatre after delivery for an hour and lost a lot of blood. Anyway things are healing externally very well.

I am not thinking of having sex anytime soon, but I had an examination and it felt tight down there when the gp examined me and sore posteriorly on the inside!

He said it will take 6months plus to fully heal inside and out!

Has anyone experience this? Will I feel normal again? Is it possible to resume some sort of normal sex life in the future?.
The gp even mentioned vaginal dilators 🤭

I would be interested to hear if anyone has encountered such issues! X

Hi! I had a 3rd degree tear and episiotomy. I’m 6 weeks post partum and had sex last night. It wasn’t painful at all so I guess it has healed up nicely. Everyone is different I guess but it will be alright for you eventually! Xxx

Following as I also had a 3b tear almost 6 months ago - I'm harassed to say I'm still too scared to dtd!

Embarrassed. Not harrassed 🤦‍♀️

I had a 3b tear with my first and an episiotomy. It felt 'tight' for months after. Walking for long periods was uncomfortable, so was sitting. It took 6 months to feel some sort of normal, and sex didn't feel fully comfortable until 1 year. Still have problems with urgency with opening bowels. Make sure you attend gynaecology follow up and physiotherapy soon after. 4 years on, and another baby later who was born by csection as I was terrified of tearing again, things are much better however I have to make a conscious effort to remember to do my pelvic floor exercises! Things will get better!

I think I had a 3rd degree tear (I was totally out of it when it was explained to me afterwards and it's never been clear to me)

It healed much faster than I thought it would, I vaulted over the back of a sofa when DS was 3 months and it didn't hurt!

It did feel tight for quite a long time. We didn't have sex for months because I was scared but it was fine, felt a bit tight for the first few times but no pain. Just go slow and warn your partner that you might need to stop. I found the first few times I needed to control speed etc but it was more fear of pain than necessity.

3 years on and it's totally normal, I'm expecting DC2 in just over a month and am not any more worried than I would be if it hadn't happened. A lovely physio told me that tearing the first time around doesn't increase your risk of birth injury the next time around which was comforting!
