C section infection /overhang

Hi mummas,

I had a c section 4 weeks ago. In the hospital I pulled some stitches on one side (about and inch) but the midwifes said its alright just to wash it and let it airdry.

Well, ds never sleeps and feeds and cries constantly so I'm always sweaty (tmi sorry) bouncing him and carrying him and I find it very hard to let it airdry for long (if I have 20 minutes of ds sleeping Id really prefer to sleep as well.
That combined with the lovely overhang gave me an infection that took forever to get diagnosed (midwife and hv kept saying its fine even though its smelly and oozing)

I'm on antibiotics now (prescribed from a phone consultation so no idea if theyre the right ones) and I'm still trying my best to keep it clean and dry.

Anything else I can try? I saw older threads suggesting butterfly strips on the little holes from the pulled stitches, is that a good idea? Any other suggestions?

And while we're on it, what did you do to keep the overhang away from the scar? I tried a binder but it didn't lift it up just pressed it down more.
Thanks in advance :)

I think you need to bypass any HV and insist on seeing a GP. Livi or zoom call will suffice. Be strong and don't take no for an answer.

Sounds like you definitely need it dressing by a nurse. Mine stopped oozing but was still open and needed dressing daily still

@nicegerbil I'm trying not to do much other than some cooking when possible and Baby's laundry.
If I leave it alone it will get smelly and painful I have to keep washing and drying and dressing ☹️

@obmolov20 the Gp didn't accept to see me and just prescribed antibiotics without looking at the incision, I think they will do the same again.

@mammato5 I will ask them tomorrow and I will call the hospital I had the section as well x

@Kaceywd if the docs won't see you tell them you will go to a and e then I bet they change their mind
I went to docs 4 times for mine
Infections can lead to sepsis you need to put your foot down x

@mrssunshinexxx I'm waiting on a phone consultation and I will tell the Gp. It doesn't make sense to not be seen for something like this it's so frustrating :(

Finally saw the Gp, he said to keep dressing it and he will send a prescription for different antibiotics which he's "positive will clear it"
Thank you all xx❤️

Glad you got it looked at. Hopefully it reassured you and you can now feel positive it'll get better. Take care x

You might be a bit early for this, and I’m quite sure no one will recommend it- but I used antibac gel and later on, roll on deodorant all around the sections that were healed, to stop the area getting sweaty- I found that means I could then tell much easier which bits actually still needed to heal and which bits were just sweaty. Plus the sanitary towel on it, and laying down and letting air get to it whenever you can.
Obviously don’t go putting roll on on broken skin! Like I say- it’s not official advice but it made a big difference for me.

A hairdryer on cool setting after a shower to 'air dry' and big knickers Grin

Kaceywd · 23/09/2020 21:24

@mammato5 thank you! X
