If you had a posterior birth first time- how was your second birth?

My little girl is 2 years old and we have decided to try for another baby soon.

I had a typical OP birth- long, painful latent labour. It was a positive experience in the end, but only because of my lovely epidural. Smile

Second time around. I would love to have a water birth. I just felt unable to cope very early on with DD, I don’t know if this was just because of my pain threshold or because of the birth!

Also, is there a higher risk the next one could be OP too?

Would love to hear some experience whether positive or more negative. Part of me really wants to experience the whole of labour and birth without an epidural, and this will be my last chance.

I'm possibly being confused here but by posterior do you mean back to back?

Daisyandroses · 07/09/2020 10:45

Yes sorry back to back!

Ah I thought so!

My first son was back to back, I was a bit stupid because I didn't realise I was in labour and didn't go to hospital until fully dialated Blush because the pain was just in my back. I have to admit looking back it could easily have turned into an event which would leave me mentally scared but luckily it didn't. I ended up having the induction drip put in because they didn't think my contractions were strong enough to get him out, zero pain relief except gas and air, then they did an episiotomy and ventoused him out.

Second son 2 years later was a calm water birth. I think I had maybe 1 or 2 stitches but that was it, bit of gas and air and he was out. Infact again they didn't think I was going to have him, said they would check me at 6pm, 5.45pm I'm begging my husband to smack the button on the all because there's a baby in the birthing pool GrinConfused

Third baby I had December 2019, I was induced due to reduced movements but it was due date anyway. I was refused a water birth due to monitoring so I took an epidural, again they took a while getting the line in and in the meantime out popped DD!

So in a long winded way I'm saying I've had a back to back baby, a water birth without assistance and one where I thought I wanted an epidural. You'll be fine Grin

That's sounds very similar to my first birth. Just been though had my second baby and I can confirm I coped alot better with the pain as I already knew what to expect. Unfortunately this one came back to back and failed to progress resulting in hospital transfer and c section then I suffered with pdph from the epidural which has just been fixed today. I've not coped too bad really. I would definitely say my pain threshold had increased and I kept calm better even with a worse result!

Thank you! I actually love the idea of a home birth or a water birth at a maternity unit. But I know if I ever experience that kind of pain for that length of time, I just won’t be able to do it!

Hi,

My first baby was back to back and I had to have an epidural because of the pain and an episiotomy.
My second labour was completely different, it was sooooo much easier! I started getting mild pains at 2am and then at 5am they were like strong period pains. I got to the hospital at 07.40am and she was born at 08.11! I had no time for pain relief and I honestly did not find it that painful (maybe because a spinal Labour is the worst!).
I did suffer a third degree tear and had to go to theatre. I am 11 weeks post partum now and doing well ( it will take a while to recover) . My labour was fab though :)

I hope everything goes well for you :) Xxxx
