Transverse baby - positive stories!

I’m currently 34 weeks and baby has been breach since about 26 weeks. I had another scan a few days ago and baby is now transverse.

The consultant wasn’t too worried and has booked me back in again for when I am 36+5 to see if she has decided to move head down and if not we will discuss options from there.

However Iv just googled transverse and have been reading that if you are still transverse at 37 weeks they admit you to hospital and you will be kept in until your c section date as there is a risk of the cord prolapsing.

Has anyone had a transverse baby that has turned Late on? And if not has anyone been admitted to hospital from 37 weeks? When was your c section booked in for? Surely they won’t admit me a my 37 weeks and keep me there until 39/40 weeks.

Thanks!

My dd was transverse the entire time. I went in for a planned c session planned for 2 weeks ahead due to the placenta being in a vulnerable position. Turns out I went into premature labour the next day and ended up with an emergency c section but as far as I am aware they can successfully turn babies.

I've had 2 transverse babies. They both turned in time. 1 at 39 weeks and the other when my waters went at 40wks. As soon as the waters went the baby went clonk and straight for head down Grin I was due to have a section 2 days later.

I had a transverse baby who moved the night before a scan confirm whether he was or not! It was only a few days ago, I went to sleep with him being extra wriggly and even my partner was shocked at the level of movements, I think he was trying to turn them. I woke up with REALLY achey ribs and a sore stomach/sick feeling, I had a feeling he must have just flipped around and that’s why I had pain... Sure enough he’s head down and that was confirmed at the scan! So I was very aware of “something” happening over night.

Maybe you will experience is the same. I’m 34+5 x

I think my baby turned at 36 weeks from transverse. There’s still time x

My midwife says until about 36 weeks they don't really worry about their position as up until this point they can still turn from head down to breech back to head down etc so you have time for them to move Smile

My DS was what they call an unstable lie, he wouldn't keep still and was in lots of different positions, although mostly transverse.

I think most transverse babies that aren't unstable do turn by themselves. Or you can try an ECV to turn them, although this comes with its own risks and often it is decided its not worth it.

DS never went head down (or at least never stayed head down) so I was admitted at 38 weeks and stayed on the ante natal ward for a week and had a CS at 39 weeks. Not ideal, but certainly better than a cord prolapse. Hopefully your baby will turn, but its not the end of the world if they don't.

My ds was unstable lie . He was frank breech until 36weeks , transverse at 37& I was admitted to hospital , he was then breech at 38+2 . He flipped head down the morning of my planned section at 38+4 so they chanced it&induced me that day . Labour was lovely (Up until the end )they just kept an eye on his position . He never got into a good position and refused to decent even once I was 10cm. after pushing his heart rate plummeted and we had an emcs . In my experience you will feel it if baby turns 😁

My baby was in “high transverse”
I had an elective at 37+5 as he measured large (9.11lbs) and there was
Concern for wellbeing and placenta issues. I never really felt movements throughout so I think that freaked the doctor out a bit.
Nothing to do with position for early delivery.
They used forceps in the cesarian to get him out though.
Was having an elective anyway so wasn’t that bothered about the delivery method.
I was 100% private and was not “kept in hospital” had scans every 7 days from 33 weeks.
I wouldn’t worry unless you actually want a vaginal Delivery.

Hi I was wondering how your birth went in the end? Did your little one turn?

Ek3009 · 07/11/2023 19:06

@Dizzydanz hi! She ended up being Frank Breech and I had a c section at exactly 37 weeks as they were worried she wasn’t putting on weight. She was born 3 weeks early at 7lb 2oz. 😂.

The C-section was planned a few days in advance. I found the whole experience very calm. Was in hospital at 7:30, taken to surgery around 9:30 and she was here by 10am. Recovery went really well and I felt fine after 2 weeks.

my best advice would be to go with the flow and follow the doctors advice as much as possible but advocate for yourself if there is anything you’re not comfortable with. Wishing you all the best!

With dd2 she was unstable transverse but she turned back to back but head down at about 37 weeks and was born fine, she stayed back to back so a stop/start early labour for a second baby 😄

PinkPlantCase · 08/11/2023 15:25

I was going to say that if she’s transverse then she’s halfway to head down! But I see she’s already made her arrival!

Congratulations OP 😁
