Hi, silly question but I'm due in November and was wondering about the car seat, does it need to be fitted in your car before you go into labour??

I would. Isofix is very easy and convenient.

We got the isofix base in the car ready. Nowt like faffing to get the thing in when your leaving hospital and in a time limited drop off/collection parking spot outside the maternity unit 🤣

Do not leave it until post birth and are trying to slide a seat via the boot into a Fiat 500

My husband picked me and Dd up from hosptal Saturday morning.

We got a new car seat as next youngest is 7.

We got the car seat 2 months ago.

He had 2 fucking months to get it out the shed and try it out. He wanted to do it as I was too big and uncomfortable to bend.

He didn’t get round to it.

Didn’t even try to belt it in on the way to hospital to get us. When we put the car seat with Dd in, the belt only just fit round it. There was much pulling and swearing to get the belt to fit.

Luckily it’s okay, and is all safe after he messed about in the car park for an eternity adjusting seats and seatbelts but he’s a fucking twat.

So yes, make sure it fits! Some cars have shorter belts than others.

It's a good idea to make sure it fits. Also then it's in the car rather than cluttering up the house.

I'd fit it and figure out how it goes in, then actually fit it and leave it closer to your due date. If it's in the car, and the car is in an accident between now and when baby comes, it would have to be replaced.

Fit the isofix base if you have one, leave that in car. Practise putting the seat in and out of the car. But don't leave the seat in the car. Prolonged exposure to sun/heat shortens the safe lifespan of the seats. Of course, it may continue to be grey and wet forever in which case no worries about leaving it in the car!

We had ours in the car from about 30 weeks because it saved having to find somewhere in the house to store it.
