Outfit to bring December baby home in

Hey, I'm a FTM and am so clueless with everything! I just read that you can't put them in a car seat in a pram suit (had no idea) so now I'm thinking ahead and trying to plan what to bring my LO home in.. does this sound ok for a December baby?

Bodysuit under sleepsuit
Sleepsuit
Bobble hat
Knitted cardigan
Knitted Booties
Blanket over him in the car seat

Any other ideas welcome, thank you! X

That’s fine
It may not even be cold

Sounds fineSmile I remember having no clue what to buy/ dress DS in before he was born. A few key things: no padded/ thick outerwear in car seats, always put a hat on when you're outside as they lose lots of heat through their heads, dress the baby in one layer more than you're wearing as a rule of thumb, and overheating is a bigger risk than getting cold when it comes to sleeping. You'll soon work out what works for your baby and if he runs cold o or hot! Enjoy the adventureSmile

That’s pretty much what my baby wore to come home in January. He was only outdoors for five minutes though, then the heating in the car warmed up and I had to take the hat and blanket off.

That's fine, less fussy the better until you get the hang of dressing!

If you want to invest, the tuppence and crumble wraps are car seat safe as they are not padded. I loved mine - hat gloves and blanket all in one!

Sounds perfect.

lozpants · 14/08/2020 12:15

@minnieok yeah that's true, another thing I haven't even thought about is learning & getting the hang of that!

@absolutehush oh my god how adorable are they! Definitely going to get one of those, thank you!

@CMMum88 thank you :)

Xxx

@lozpants totally unrelated but I also found bedding really stressful, and therefore really liked the newborn gro bags where you can popper up the arm holes so it's like a swaddle at first (without the hip issues or faff but with the no waking themselves up by jerking arms about) but if it's hot/they're getting older you can pop the arms out. Plus no having to worry of the blanket had untucked/loosened and they were going to somehow smother themselves!

Lucked · 14/08/2020 12:44

I had winter babies, I loved the blankets that fasten into the car seat and then you fold them over the baby.

Spam88 · 14/08/2020 12:59

Yep that's what we put on my December baby, minus the booties. Just remember not to blast the heating in the car if you've got them all wrapped up! Also hats are generally enormous, just FYI. Hopefully your hospital will give you one that actually fits.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 14/08/2020 20:29

Goodness, don't fuss. If you're driving from your local hospital to home then he will be absolutely fine in a bog standard babygro with a blanket over him.

GrumpyHoonMain · 14/08/2020 20:32

My baby was born in december. We had a short sleeved vest, a sleepsuit, a soft bodied pramsuit, and a blanket in his carseat. Could have gone with a snowsuit instead of the blanket but my stitches hurt too much to be faffing aroung taking it on / off in the car. We inherited a pramsuit that was 0-3 months so he wore it until spring.

lozpants · 14/08/2020 22:14

@PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg I'm not fussing,
I'm a first time mum and wanted some advice.

Starsnugs are brilliant. I had one in 2016 and will be using it again for my next baby. Ds was late November, I think he had a
shirt sleeve vest, babygrow, cardigan, hat and blanket.

I hated long sleeve vest with a passion , they're a nightmare to get a babygrow arm over. I preferred sleeveless from a few weeks old, but I had a very warm baby. He'll wear shorts year round Grin
