How do you know if you've fractured your tailbone after birth?

Had my baby 2 weeks ago, she was back to back and delivered with mid cavity forceps after I had been pushing for an hour. Since then I've had sharp lower back pain when sitting, walking etc which doesn't seem to be gong away, and is very localised around my tailbone. I'm wondering if I've maybe fractured it? I've been discharged from the midwife but I don't know if it's something I should bother the GP with yet.

With dd I fell down the stairs and bruised mine and was in agony and it didn't actually feel better till 18 months pp.

Unfortunately there's nothing then can do for it so you have to try manage the pain, regular painkillers, sitting on a donut type cushion. I feel for you because it really was agony I cried for days way more than I found labour 🤣

Hot water bottle helps to!

Mine stuck out, you could feel a nobble on my bum. It was hard to sit down on it and I always had to twist and sit on one cheek.
It is much better years later but I still can't do sit ups or anything where I lean back on it.

You need an MRI. Start with a gp referral, they may ask you to wait a few weeks until the swelling subsides but can give you suitable painkillers if you are bf.
Mine was completely broken after a forceps birth and was agony, I'm still having treatment 22 months later. I've had a course of steroid injections which helped.
In the early days I got a coccyx cushion which made it easier to sit.

Thanks for replies. I had a call with my GP yesterday who said the same, that there's not much they can do for it and to manage it with painkillers at the moment. He said it could take a while to heal and wouldn't expect me to feel much relief yet since it was only 2 weeks since the birth and I might also have bruising and swelling. If it's still as sore at my 6 week check they can refer me for physio etc.

Hi OP I had similar and never actually found out if it was fractured but I think it was knocked out of place if that makes sense
No one took me seriously at hospital or in the weeks following despite my not being able to stand from sitting or sit for long periods without a lot of pain
I had to fight for my self and ended up in a pain clinic having cortisone injections monthly whixh helped
I found it was mostly dismissed but was certainly NOT normal so don't put up with it like i did for months
